Click, click, click, pause, click, click, click, pause.
For the past hour and a half, the clack and click of the keyboard has been echoing throughout Akaashi's tidy, dim-lit, and modern apartment, excluding the occasional under-the-breath-cursing. At times like these did Akaashi really feel at ease, no peoples' chatter, no sirens, not even the sound of a vehicle swerving by, just the natural chipper of the birds...he is at peace. Focused, yet relaxed, he continues on with his work, a horror and sci-fi, his two favourite genres in one. Akaashi fell in love with literature and creative writing way back, back, 20 years ago, first grade; yes, twenty years ago, makes him feel old, saying that.
Akaashi is Japanese, but he's spent most of his life in the UK, returning to Japan after graduation from Cambridge, and all his English teachers, for each grade, he learnt a great deal every time. Those people, they changed his life, they inspired him, his eighth-grade teacher was his personal favourite, hush, don't tell anyone. He was so happy, supportive parents, an apple-pie, picket-fence, life. Sure, he had his downs, mostly, it was bullying. He never had any friends, but one, his elder sister, who was with him every step of the way, a role model, a beautiful, positive, artistic young woman. Yet it all went downhill, beautiful things never last forever. His sister, Kiana Akaashi, had died of colon cancer at 21, it broke 17 years old Akaashi down, he didn't eat, secluding himself in his room, and the negativity and physical and verbal abuse at school only worsened, his perfect Kiana wasn't there to stand up for him any longer. A year passed, a whole 12 months of pain, self-hate, swollen, blood-shot eyes, lack of sleep, nightmares, dropping grades, and the damned shrink. It was all unbearable, but Akaashi was healed. Though he was against it, thinking it was a substitute to Kiana, however, it really helped. It was a baby brother, the sweetest little human being, wide-eyed and innocent, Akaashi felt the responsibility of protecting the new Reo Akaashi. Reo-chan was the most adorable thing, Akaaashi laughed for the first time in a year when Reo said his name, although it was 9 years ago, he remembers it vividly, little Reo struggling to say his big brother's name, "K-k-k-aaa-y-y-y." Baby Reo stumbled on his letters, but Akaashi, nearly on the verge of joyful tears, cheered him on, "Kay-shi!" They both laughed, and laughed, Akaashi wiping at his eyes, happier than he was in several months.
