Chapter 2

"My darlings wake up, the sun's shining and its a beautiful day~" an annoyingly cheerful voice rang from the kitchen.

Zero groaned at the noise and mourned the broken silence. He didn't sleep much that night, he wasn't quite sure he even did. The teen knew the moment he closed his eyes, the nightmares would plague his sleep. He hated feeling vulnerable, and seeing his parents die and die each night made him feel like the same, young boy he was who's innocence was stripped away like a layer of skin.

A moan came from Zero's right. "Eh, tell the old man to shut his mouth. I was dreaming about winning 5 matches in a row at fortnite!" Ichiru complained from beneath the blanket, voice cracking from sleep.

Zero rolled his eyes. "You and that game..."

Ichiru emerged from the depths of blanket to give his brother a glare and to defend his precious game, before realising the dark circles painting Zero's under eyes. His features instantly shaped into worry. "You didn't sleep again, did you..."

Zero didn't like lying to his brother. So he opted for the next best option.

"Don't worry about me, Ichiru..." he said as he gave his brother one of his rare, delicate smiles (a weakness of Ichiru's) and ruffled his brother's silver locks.

Ichiru rolled his eyes. He placed a hand over Zero's waist and began to rub the sleep out of his eyes. Within a yawn, he says, "first day of our last year... I hear all the fancy rich kids are transferring. Now our last year's gonna be spoiled by stupid rich kids!"

Zero sighed and closed his eyes, focusing on the sensation of his brother's warmth. "Cross mentioned that, multiple times. If you'd actually been paying attention and not playing your game on your PlayStation."

"I'm telling you Zero, if you played it you'd understand."

"You say that to everyone."

"Cuz it's true."

Zero sighed again. "Uh huuuh..."

"~My darlings breakfast is ready!" Kaien yelled melodically from the kitchen. A few moments later he continued, "actually... err scratch that...*cough* Give me a second my darlings somethings gone wrong!" Seconds passed and the fire alarm began to ring.

Both of the brothers looked at each other with the same, dead panned expression.

"You get the fire extinguisher, and I'll cook breakfast," Zero said to Ichiru.

Ichiru moaned in annoyance and threw his head back onto the wall.

"Ow!"

"You always forget there's a wall there."

"No I don't! It's just Cross is so stupid that I have to throw my head back!" Ichiru argues as he rubs the back of his head.

Zero rolled his eyes.

"Kaname! Kaname wake up!" A young feminine voice calls from above him, waking him from his slumber.

"Hmm.. yes, Yuki?" Kaname smiles tiredly at his sister with a single open eye. Yuki, already dressed in her new uniform, smiled at him with eagerness as she hovered over his figure.

"Cmon Kaname, it's the first day at our new school!"

Kaname gently pushed his sister onto his side and rubbed the tiredness from his eyes. "Haha yea, I believe I am aware."

Yuki coming into wake up Kaname was a daily ritual, a welcomed one, at that.

"You excited?" Yuki asks in curiosity as she watched Kaname begin to dress.

The teen thought for a moment, before answering the question in a surprised tone. "Yes, in fact, I am. I have a good feeling about this year." Kaname smiles to himself. He's been having very pleasant dreams over the recent nights. Dreams of a companion with silky soft skin and moonlight features. Sometimes hey were innocent dreams, where they'd be dancing or enjoying each other's company. At other times they'd be sexual, Kaname had to admit he'd like those the most.

Kaname smiled to himself. Maybe this year he'll find them.

He glanced back at his sister, who was laying on his bed with her head propped up against her elbow. "Are you looking forward to this year?"

Yuki placed a finger over her lips and looked to the ceiling, deep in thought. "As long as you're there with me Kaname, I'm sure it'll be great!" She says and smiles sweetly at her brother.

Kaname smiles back with an equally sweet smile.
