Somewhere in the Ice Palace, an egg that was descended from Clearsight cracked along the edges. The mother, an IceWing named Shard looked down at the egg, praying to herself. She watched as the egg was bathed in sunlight and nestled safely in a nest of twigs, lined with feathers in the center and small leaves tucked around the edges.
Shard laid down next to the egg and wrapped herself around it, keeping it warm and safe. The egg crackled more, as if agreeing to being curled up in her mother's soothingly cold scales. A tiny chip came off the egg and the dragonet poked one talon out, reaching for the light. It's calling me... The light wants me out...
The little dragonet knew these words, but didn't quite understand them. All she knew is that she had to break out. Now. She pushed against the wall of a world she knew and then again, stronger and harder. Finally, after a long minute, she crawled out into her mother's talons. Mother, she thought.
I will never let anything happen to you. I will protect you from anyone.

Meanwhile, a RainWing let out a distressed wail. The RainWing is a beautiful pink color, but it instantly shifts to lime green and pale white, swirls of gray-blue flooding her wings.
  "Peacemaker," she exclaimed. "Wha-Why?!"
She threw herself at the old NightWing-RainWing's body. Tears sprang from her eyes as she mourned her father's death. A darker RainWing with dark blue scales walked up behind her.
"Berry. He's gone. I'm sorry," murmured the RainWing softly. "He was my father too. I'm as sad as you are."
As the RainWing said that, a third RainWing walked in, carrying a basket of assorted berries. When she saw Peacemaker, she was visibly fighting back tears. "Berry. Cicada. Leave."
Berry sniffled "Yes, mother." She lead her brother out of their hut.
