CHAPTER TWO

Miranda started the engine up and smiled at me which just made me cringe. This journey was going to be as much fun as watching paint dry but at least I didn't have to keep listening to Brianna's whiney apologies and Harry's pathetic excuses. Or have to put up with mums 'sorry I'm working late tonight' notes on the fridge while I was left to fend for myself.

"We really are going to have so much fun Olivia. I hope you are as excited as me. Your Dad can get the karaoke out and w will have a good old family sing song. You know how much we all adore your singing."

Good god this woman was so annoying, what did my dad see in her? For starters she's crazy about animal rights and forever trying to convince people to become vegans blah blah so boring! "Yay." I rolled my eyes sarcastically and turned my attention to outside the window while she blabbed on about some rubbish. My phone started to bleep in my pocket so I pulled it out to see a number I didn't recognise flashing up on the screen.

"Hey, who is this?" I said into my phone.

"Olivia. It's me, please don't hang up." I felt sick in my mouth as I fell silent and listened to the person on the other end of the phone.

Harry.

Oh for goodness sake, this guy did not know when to give up.

"What do you want Harry?" I sighed.

I could hear him breath a sigh of relief because it was the first time I had allowed myself to speak to him since that night at the prom.

"To talk babe, explain. We need to sort things out." I didn't want to start crying in front of Miranda but hearing his voice was really messing with my emotions.

"I can't right now. I'm going away."

"What where? When will you be back?" he wanted to know. For a split second I found myself wondering if we really could get through this.

"I don't know Harry, I need some time to think."

"Ok I love you Olivia!" He said before hanging up. I sat for a minute not sure what to think, lost in my own world and must have fallen asleep because the next minute Miranda nudged me and I realise we have arrived.

"Olivia! My haven't you grown." Dad exclaimed beaming from ear to ear as he pulled me from the car and squeezed me into a hug. "I have ordered pizza for tea and your just in time." My ears pricked up at that statement and I smiled back at my dad gratefully. Pizza was mine and my Dad's special thing while mum hated it, it had become our special thing.

"With extra cheese and pineapple?"

Dad nodded. "Of course."

After pizza we all sat watching a film with popcorn and a glass of wine. Dad and Miranda sat either side of me and it felt really nice to forget everything that had been going on lately.
