The thin, lanky, girl sat on the cold stone bench. she leaned her back against the cold stone walls of Hogwarts, immersed in her book. she had always been the book worm type, and she never realy had much of a social life. she had a couple friends, sure, but she was overshadowed by them. why, do you ask? because her friends were famous. Her best friend, Harry, was the boy who lived. anyone he liked hanging out with was suddely either loved or hated. she was the ladder. at least she had ron, heromine and harry on her side. "Hey, Ava!" the raven haired girl turned her attention from her book to the familar voice shouting her name in the distance. she looked to see her three friends, as mentioned before, Ron, Heromine, and Harry. They smiled and waved at her, so she smiled softly and waved back. she closed her book, not bothering to mark her page- she had read it a million times. she got up and ran-walked over to the three thirteen year olds. "Hi guys." she said softly. "hello. did you finish your potions homework? its due in about an hour." Heromine replied. Ava nodded. "oh, finished that yesterday. it doesnt really matter to me, Snape always gives me good grades no matter what." She admitted, before giggling a small bit. "lucky, snape always treats us like absoloute trash. he's a prick, honestly." ron added, clearly annoyed. harry laughed in response to rons complaining. Ava only smiled. "yes, i suppose hes rude to you three. well, maybe the entire class, but he treats me alright." She admitted, before walking along with the three. "Yeah, but its like youre his heir or something" harry said in a somewhat happy tone. "Hes weird about you, he always keeps an eye on you. I think hes up to something." he admitted. heromine sighed. "you always think hes plotting something, Harry." she shook her head. "no, im serious this time! he might be trying to lure her in to send her off to you-know-who." ron laughed. "what would he want with Ava? i dont really imagine shes an enemy to him." he admitted, before taking off his jacket. ava smiled- she didnt exactly know why Snape treated her so differently. maybe she was just pleasent to be around, or he just felt bad for her. Maybe he just was fond of her. still, Ava had never seen him be nice as he is to her to anyone else. She sat in thought for a moment, before being interuppted by Heromine. "Ava, are you listening?" The raven haired girl smiled a small bit. "oh, sorry. i just zoned out for a moment. can you repeat what you said?" "I said that potions is our next class, im going to the libary with ron and harry to study. we're supposed to have a quiz today, would you like to join us?" she asked. ron and harry looked quite confused, but decided to go with it. "ah, no thanks. Ive got to catch up on this book im reading." she lied, knowing fully well that she head read this book a milion times. they looked a little dissapointed, but smiled and said their goodbyes before walking to the libary. Ava just wanted some alone time, and she didnt want to hear harry talk about how she could be used for voldemort. it gave her a sick feeling in her stomach, like she was going to throw up. she sighed and began walking into hogwarts after she was sure her friends were gone. she began to walk through the now empty corridors, most people were either outside or in their common rooms. Ava pushed some of her bangs out of her face, a little exausghted. she had spent the entire day being riduculed, being called snapes twin, teachers pet and other names. She didnt even know why snape treated her so well, it seemed like everyone noticed his actions towards her. some said it was nice, some said it was creepy, and some said she was lucky. As Ava was thinking, something stopped her in her tracks. in the distance she could hear two adult voices, which she immediately recognised as lupin and snapes. Ava realized that listening in on their conversation could be bad, and if she was caught, she could get detention. still, something about it made her wanna stay and listen. she leaned against the wall, listening as hard as she could. "Now, Severus, i really think you should-" "No, Reamus. im not telling her." who was 'she'?, Ava thought. She listened harder than before. "she deserves to know, you cant keep this secret from her forever." Ava heard snape sigh. "I cant, as much as a apperciate your efforts, i cant. as much as i want to..i cant." "Severus, you just cant do this, you have to tell her. people will start to notice if you dont." Snape sighed once more. "I will, soon." Lupin, now sounding angry, said "How long is soon going to be? Shes thirteen, im sure she can-" "No, she cant! a thirteen-year-old mind isnt able to process something as big as this!" Ava felt her face drain of all color. Were they talking about her? No, they couldnt. it was probaly someone importent, like heromine. Ava's never been important. Lupin remained silent for a moment. "i..i see." He said finally. "the girl's not as easy to get through as you think, lupin." Snape hissed. "Ava's a difficult one, certainly." Lupin added. Snape sighed. "I know all too well." Ava felt her heart drop. She mustve heard them wrong. theres no way they could be talking about her. "i suppose someone mightve caught on by now, the way youre so protective over her." Lupin admitted. "you should probably be a little less protective, by the way. shes not the 11 year old that she used to be. im sure she can protect herself. shes not little Ava anymore." Lupin said, reasuringly. Snape sighed. "yes- ive been working on that, but I won't do that now. theres a serious threat to every child in this school, especially her." Ava felt like she was about to collapse. her legs were barley holding up her body weight. They were talking about her. and something very bad is going to happen to her. And snape was..protecting her? she could barley hold herself up. "i need to go, Lupin. It was a pleasure." snape hissed, but not as harsh as before. lupin was silent, and Ava started hearing footsteps nearing her. She started to run, not by choice, but her body forced her to. she ran, trying to keep her footsteps as quiet as possible. she ran until she felt safe enough to slow down. she leaned against the wall. She was still shaking, and she let herself collapse on the floor. she was terrified. so, so scared.
