It was a bright day in Texas and I was in a field that day on my parent's property and it was decently large with no real fences on it. Sitting in the tall grass was my eight-year-old self as I was looking at the planes that were at the airport next to where my parents live. That was the only fence on the property so I retract my previous statement. Now, keep in mind I am in Texas, this place is known for not having the friendliest snakes around especially if they happen to be large ones and since I was little I was told to avoid snakes at all costs. On such a day I was looking around and behind me, I felt something brush against my back and it was not a dog or anything like that, let alone a mammal or marsupial because it felt almost rough in one direction and smooth in the other. It took my brain a second at the time but I soon figured out that it was a reptile. At that point, my inner child took over and I whipped around believing that there was a dragon behind me and he or she wanted to be my friend but I was wrong... very wrong. What I saw was the tail of a seemingly massive snake. In my quite understandable fear I quickly jumped to run away from the snake but in the process, I just stepped on the tail and a figure that also looked part human whipped itself to meet me and quickly tackled me to the ground. Before I knew it I was wrapped in coils by what felt like some sort of anaconda to me not that I would know of course but in the upcoming years, I would get at least some sort of idea what that feels like. Just when I expected to be slowly and painfully crushed and eaten by a giant constrictor I saw a human face with little bits of scales at the sides. I have met Amy.
[Fact blurb 1 Lamia: Lamias are truly unique creatures in the sense that they are a half snake and half human but their human portion has skin instead of scales. Lamias are also very strong creatures that have been known to hurt others by accident especially in acts of love but you honestly cannot blame them for it because to a lamia they are just hugs and cuddles or in some cases a desperate attempt to stay warm. On that note, it is important to mention that lamias are cold-blooded creatures so they cannot produce their own body heat. This means that they only live in warm climates so they can both safely live in the say and safely sleep at night and not ever have to worry about the cold. As an alternative, if they have heated clothing they can live almost anywhere they want but might have trouble at night due to a lower temperature. Lastly, if they have a warm-blooded lover they are usually the heat source for the lamias. Moreover, lamias are a female only species which means that they need to find mates from other species. This species almost always are humans, however, humans are not nearly as durable as lamias so their lives as lamia mates tend to yield mixed results.]
I looked the creature in the face and well... saw a face. She was quite obviously female and was my age as well. "Why did you do that human!?" She exclaimed, "Why shouldn't I bite you right this second!? I was only stalking you from a distance for a year!" The verbal assault soon ended and she saw a look in my eyes of pure fear at the sight of the lamia and she lost her anger knowing why she stalked the boy for so long. She at the time was very lonely and that was the only other creature of her age that she has seen let along a male human she could take as a mate but that was not the goal at that point in time she just wanted someone to be with. She loosened her grip on the human and began to move her human section towards him to appear friendlier. I at that point began to look back at her with less fear and a bit more openness or rather curiosity for what the lamia wanted from me. Amy then looked upon the human which was much smaller than her due to the tail she began to speak much to my surprise. "Hi, there I'm Amy! I have been stalking you for a little over a year what is your name?" She asked him kindly as her once scary and predatory form washed away to a happy young girl who just wanted to have a friend human or not. Quite surprised by this sudden change and display I am lost for words before I finally speak after a few awkward seconds. "I'm Josh it is nice to meet you, Amy," I said relieved to see that she would not hurt me. Amy then turned around to him and began to speak once more. "So... I am guessing you want to know why I have been watching you," she said wanting to ease my nerves. "Nobody in my village is my age but you are close to my village and seem really nice but you also seem quiet and lonely so I want to be around you." She said to the human who she was now curling around him with her tail almost like her own version of a hug this immobilized me but honestly, I did not mind as it meant that I had a new friend and they were nothing like the ones I had in school. After a few minutes she let go and sat next to the human accidentally dropping him onto the grass in the field. I began to walk to the fence but not without watching the lamia behind me so she knew to come. I then sat down and she did next to me wrapping her tail in a circle around me but not coiling me up it was just because she had to put it somewhere. We watched the planes and occasional helicopters until sundown that day and when the sunset came she hugged me once more before we went to our respective homes hoping to see each other once again the next day.
