I knew I shouldn't have come out at this time, 7:00 Pm.

One hour before the sun sets. An hour before darkness invades Salinas. The last hour before I break my promise to Dylan, again.

I was stupid enough to leave the house at 7:00, completely forgetting to check the time and ran out the house to get groceries. Why didn't I just ask Dylan to get it? He always complains about me getting it at this time. I was stuck, I didn't know what to do. But what bothers me the most is that I've never been this careless before.

I press the icon of Dylan and me smiling at the camera at a carnival on my contacts list for the millionth time to call him. I'm drenched in rain outside of the grocery store calling him, looking pathetic.

"Come on, pick up, you bastard." I murmured, listening to the call, anticipating the voice of my little brother that I desperately want to hear right now. I don't know what I would do if he doesn't pick up. I would have to walk to home in the rain.

Alone in the dark.

My anxiety spiked up as each second passed, ring after ring, my hope started diminishing.

Sorry, but your call cannot be completed. I sighed dejectedly, feeling defeated as I slip my phone into my back pocket once again.

I watched as the droplets of rain splashed the ground, covering the road with a layer of water that reached the height of the pavement. The water starts sliding down the road to a place that could never be known. The sound of the rainwater connecting with the hard concrete calmed my anxiety yet, it brought out the sense of despair.

7:30 pm

Exactly half an hour before I break my promise.

The sound of thunder broke me out of my trance. The thunder roared ferociously, showing no mercy to the children of this town. Making its presence known to every single person in this town. As each round of thunder came, it gets louder, stronger, the rain intensifies, until all you can hear is the sound mother nature throwing a tantrum.

I sighed as I took a step back, going back to the grocery shop under the shelter would the best choice for now. But my plan was quickly aborted when I heard a faint whimper. A whimper that I know way too well.

I whimpered as a figure loomed over me, towering me. The only light source came from the moon and shone onto half of a familiar face. The bright, beautiful moonlight casted onto a man with a repulsive and sadistic heart. The man had a slight stubble that covered the lower part of his face, he had a sinister smile that sent chills down my spine.
