“The worst lies are the lies we tell ourselves. We live in denial of what we do, even what we think. We do this because we're afraid. We fear we will not find love, and when we find it we fear we'll lose it. We fear that if we do not have love we will be unhappy.”

Chapter Two:
Mickey had invited me out for dinner with the guys. I agreed, thinking that it would be a pleasant escape from the empty apartment. Now I thought it may have been smarter to stay home. The guys well joking around, as usual, but the diner seemed to make every noise echo so their voices were louder than ever. And I was starting to get a headache.
I sat with to Levi, Grant and Lewis. Mickey was at one of the other tables, the guy abandonded me! He knew that I didn't mind not sitting with him, I didn't have a problem with anyone on the team, but he was the one that invited me. Now he was socialising with others, probably trying to hit on some poor, unsuspecting girl.
And I was related to that idiot.
Lewis and Grant had been best friends for years and were happily chatting to each other, though Levi was a bit more reserved.
No one really knew anything about him, except that he was great at football and was one of their best players. He always kept to himself, which is why it surprised me to see him here. Maybe he was here for a similar reason to me; he wanted to get away from home. Or maybe he was just bored.
I took a sip of my soda and looked around. It was a retro diner with red leather seats and silver tables. There was an old jukebox in the far corner, where a group of people stood choosing another song. The diner was cute, in my opinion. From the checked flooring to the hanging lights, it all just fit together.
When I focused my attention back to our table I noticed Levi looking a me strangely. I smiled at him politely and decided to start up a conversation.
"So, do you come here often?" I said, using a cheesy pick up line in hopes of erasing any future awkwardness. It would either work, or fail miserably.
He gave me a puzzled look that said 'did-you-really-just-say-that'? And I returned it with a sarcastic smile.
Levi laughed but answered anyway, "As a matter of fact, I don't. It's my first time."
"You don't say? Then you have to try the chicken dish." I nodded at the menu in his hand.
"Hm. I might just do that." He smiled at me and brushed his fingers through his short blond hair, "Anyway, what are you doing here? Not to sound rude but I thought this dinner was for the football team?"
I blinked, "Mickey's my cousin. I'm practically a member of the team. Man, I am the whole face of the team. I make the team, you guys wouldn't even be a team if it weren't for m-"
"Okay, okay. I get it. You're 'important'" He rolled his eyes at my over-dramatisation.
"Thank you for noticing." I said sarcastically.
He chuckled at me just as an unfamiliar waiter arrived at our table. That fact alone sparked interest in me as I actually did come here a lot. One of my closest friends worked here and more often than not her car had broken down meaning I have to swoop in, save the day and drive her to work.
Soon enough I had become quite close with most of the workers here, or at least I knew their face. I had never seen the waiter before in my life, so I instantly picked up that he was a new employee. Scanning him up and down I noticed that he wasn't nervous like most people were on their first few days at work, even if it was at a diner, he just seemed bored. Perhaps he had worked at diners or cafes before, or maybe he knew that his job a secured meaning he may know the boss. Although mayb- Stop it!
