Captive

He's caged and left with no way out,

His house, not home, a place of fear;

Leaving would be the best, no doubt,

But he can't do it, that is clear.

Just thinking of the little girl

That clung so tightly to his clothes,

It sent his heart into a whirl

With all the feelings she arose.

He couldn't leave her there, alone,

And stuck into that awful hell;

To end up beaten to the bone,

Without a moment to rebel.

And thus, he kept on staying there

In order to protect the child;

He led his life as if a nightmare,

But hid his sorrow deep inside.

For he just wanted to be sure

His sister wouldn't have to cry;

That she remained safe and secure

Even if that meant he'll die.
