Chapter 3

stephens POV
The worlds not always fair, its actually more UN fair than it is fair, I figured this out the hard way, the way no parent wants to.
"she needs a heart valve repair , umm that's what's causing the low oxygen" the doctor told us as I sat there shaking my leg holding Riley with one hand and holding my other daughters hand trying to hold it together.
" so surgery?" I asked looking down " umm yes " I looked up at her " when" I asked putting my chin on the top of Riley's head.
" as soon as possible " she said pulling papers out "the operation will take about 4 hours and we'll have to see how she's doing after, so we can see when we can release her."
I put Riley down and pinched my nose and grabbed the papers signing them.
" can we have a minute with her before you take her up?" I asked still so UN enthused " yes of course, take all the time you need " she said and I handed her the papers back getting up as she left.
I stood next to her bed silent for a minute till my wife started talking " you alright babe?" she asked and I turned " yea " I said low and felt a tug on my pants looking down " she gonna be fine, I promise da da" Riley said sweetly and I smiled "can you put me on her bed?" she asked and I did.
" daddy's sad, and I don't like when he's sad, so get better, I love you " she whispered and kissed her head turning to me putting her arms out and I picked her up " I got her baby " Ayesha took her and left the room.
" hey, you can't do this to me, you're my little girl " I giggled as tears left my eyes " I can't play without you there yelling at everything I do wrong, anyways just wanted to say I love you " I kissed her cheek " oh and klay loves you too " I said leaving the room and didn't even listen to my wife try and comfort me just walked to the front of the hospital outside where klay was.
" hey " I said giving him a hug, klay was practically a brother to me and was definitely Alexandra's favorite uncle.
" what she the diagnosed?" he said serious but then smirked " what's funny?" I asked a little offended " oh nothing " he smiled and crossed his arms " its just that's usually something I ask Alexandra " he smiled and I did to.
" heart valve repair she's going into surgery right now " I said totally changing the mood and all of a sudden klay ran to the curb and threw up.
"woah hey just calm down, the doctor said she's gonna be fine, she'll be out of surgery in a couple hours" I patted his back and he stood up and spit.
" you should be with your family right now " he said and started to walk with me " you're my family too bro" I said I patting his back and he smiled.
When we got upstairs Ayesha was eating with Riley.
"hey daddy" Riley said with her head down and she scooted me a plate towards me.
" what's wrong baby?" I asked crouching down to her level and she shrugged " are you okay?" she asked and I smiled " yea daddy's fine just tired we should get some rest " I said picking her up cause she was done with her food and layed her on the couch and put a blanket on her then layed on the other end passed out to.

Alexandra POV
" I love you " I Hurd my dad say and I thought he was talking to me at first till I opened my eyes and he wasn't even looking at me. I gasped for air grabbing his hand and he looked at me " oh hey princess " he turned to me smiling and touching my chest and there was a long bandage there " don't touch, you had surgery yesterday " I almost freaked " why?" my voice was horse " they had to do a valve repair, but you're okay now" he said sweetly and I shook my head.
"I don't like this " I said about to cry and he frowned " awe come here " he kissed my head and put a piece of hair behind my ear " your uncles with the doctor right now, but he really wanted to be here when you woke up, he's sorry he couldn't " he said sweetly and I shook my head " can you call him" my voice was shallow and he shook his head " of course " he said taking his phone out.
" hey klay " he said and I grabbed Stephen's hand trying to sit up " hang on sweetheart " he said to me " guess who's up?" he said smiling putting it on speaker helping me sit up.
"ah no man, damnet im sorry bro " he said and I giggled " hey can you put her in front of the screen?" he asked and steph did.
" hey princess " he said smiling and rubbed his forehead " im so sorry im not there i told them I wanted to wait for you to wake up but ill be there as soon I can, I PROMISE " he said promise distinctively and I smiled " its okay, im glad, you're getting, checked " I said trying to breath and he shook his head " well I have a concussion like you said, were gonna head down there right now okay ?" He asked and I smiled shaking my head " I love you " I said shallow and he blew me a kiss " I love you too" he said hanging up and steph took the phone .
" it's hard " I said then mouthed the words breathe and he pressed the nurse button and someone ran in the room " Umm she says it's hard to breathe " Stephen told the doctor and she walked over to me " hey how are you feeling?" She asked looking at my vitals and I shrugged " sore" I whispered and she shook her head " yea you're gonna be for a couple days." She grabbed an oxygen mask " okay I'm gonna have you wear this for right now and we're gonna have the Pulmonologist come down and help you out get you on some controllers okay?" She said and I shook my head "okay I'll check on you after" she said smiling leaving .
" this sucks " I said taking my mask off and he placed his hand over mine putting it back on " I know baby girl, but daddy's gonna be here as much as he can " he said talking about him self and I shook my head and right when I was gonna ask about Klay someone walked threw the door and when I saw Klay my face lit up "Klay " I opened my arms up and my machine went off " woah you're really excited " Stephen said and Klay hugged me smiling " ahhh my beautiful princess how are you ?" He asked and i scooted over patting The bed and he sat down " yes?" He asked and I waved him closer " you're , the only , one who , smiles at me " I whispered taking the oxygen off and he sighed " you know it's hard " he said softly and Stephen got up " Umm I'm gonna go change my sticker " he said weird kissing My head leaving the room and I sighed.
" he thinks you like me more " he said defensive and I smirked " of course , you're my uncle " I closed my eyes still not being able to catch my breathe " I'm sorry this happened sweetheart " he shook his and I shrugged " you're not practicing, so , you can stay , with me " I smiled and so did he .
" hello I'm the Pulmonologist " someone just walked in and she looked at my machine " wow I see you're having a pretty hard time breathing so we're gonna do a treatment and give you a steroid shot , were also gonna put you on dulara it should help with the inflammation." She said pulling medicine out of her pocket hooking everything up and replaced my mask to one that did a treatment .
" okay I need to do the shot in your lower back so will you help her up ?" She asked Klay and he shook his head and he got up and swung my legs over the side of the bed and helped me sit up " okay I'm gonna, lean on you " I said whinny and he shook his head " whatever you need princess he said and I put my arms around his neck and leaned my head on his shoulder and he rubbed my back " it's gonna be okay " he said as I whined " shh shh " he kissed my head a bunch as the lady put the needle in and I started to cry " okay now the painful part " i looked up to Klay and he was crying " it's gonna be okay I'll get Stephen " he said as I held on tight and she put the medicine in and I screamed and Stephen came running in " hey hey baby girl look at me " he said looking in my eyes as i whimpered hiccuping" Klay let me take over " he said nudging him and Klay moved to the side and Stephen took his place on the chair .
" you okay " he said and I shook my head no and sighed " okay just a couple more minutes " he said kissing me .
We sat there for a while and there I sighed "okay help me sit " I said breathing normal again and he picked me up setting me down softly and the doctor took the mask off putting nubs on me .
" I'll be back in an hour" she said sweet and walked out .
"I'm okay now " I smiled and Klay stood up " sorry " he walked over to me and I shook my head " oh hush , come here " I said waving him over.
We talked for a while and I started to fall asleep while steph and Klay where talking to me about there new strategies for the game.
"Alexandra ?" I looked up and there was a doctor Infront of me and I sighed " yea " I sat up and she smiled " how are you feeling ?" She whispered and I looked to see Klay holding my hand "Umm fine , can I get more pain medicine?" I asked and she walked over to Klay " Klay , wake up " she shook him and went behind me " we only gave you one of morphine but we're gonna bump it up two three okay ?" She asked and I shook my head " isn't it like my parents decision?" I looked at Klay who smiled at me and I took my hand back " Umm you're a medical trainer so I can ask you plus your parents aren't here " she readjusted the medicine and walked out infront of us. " when can I leave ?" I asked and the doctor sighed " Umm you've got alittle while till we can release you " she shook her head and I rolled my eyes " why so long , the surgery went well right ? " I asked confused and she sighed " yes it did , but your stats arnt rising because you waited to have this done and your lungs are weak , you might have to wear oxygen for a while , and I don't want you traveling for Atleast a month " my doctor told me making me stress and Klay sighed " but the finals are in -" Klay started but was stopped " her heart can't handle it , she needs rest " the doctor stated stern and he shrugged " okay " he grumbled and the doctor left upset .
" Klay I'll go crazy in here " I started to cry and he hugged me " I know I know " he comforted me till I Hurd my dad talking to someone coming in my room .
" what's wrong ?" He asked sounding protective and Klay let go of me. " Umm since my , stats arnt going up, I can't travel or go to games " I shivered and he sighed taking the place of Klay sitting next to me .
" guys let us have a moment " he held my hand " yea " My uncle Klay said leaving .
Then steph took my hand and smiled "okay so I talked to the doctor , and your going to be released tomorrow but you're going to have to wear oxygen " he stated softly and I rolled my eyes " but I can't travel right " I raised my hand upset letting it fall on the bed and he sighed " look if we make it the 6th game and it's at there house we'll figure something out I promise " he assured me and I shook my head and sighed " can I just sleep ?" I asked and his eyes watered " umm yea of course " he whispered kissing my hand letting go then kissed my cheek .
" I've gotta practice but I'll be back in two hours and klays here okay ?" He tried not crying and I smiled " lean down " I stated and he listened letting me kiss his cheek while his tears started to fall " I'm sorry , I just love you so much " he sniffled and I shook my head " it's okay , I love you too alright , now go practice so you can win me a championship " I smiled wide and he did too shaking his head " okay " he said leaving the room to go get Klay.
When Klay came in he looked exsoted and I opened my arms to him " hey " he said then yawned while sitting on the Doctor stool next to my bed .
" will you hold me while I sleep ?" I asked low making him smile. " I'd love to " he said stretching and laid down and cuddled me into him as I feel asleep in his cocoon like arms .
When I woke up I was surprised to see how early in the morning it was , that is because I literally was asleep all day because the clock on the wall said 1:17which meant I slept for 8 hours , I never really did know how much surgery took out of you.
" Klay " I whined cause he was still holding me surprisingly but I was sweating my butt off .
" sorry sweetheart , woah you're burning up " he said wiggling his way out of the bed and pressed the nurse button and didn't wait just walked out of the room .
Immediately Klay and Alex rushed in the room turning the lights on while waking everyone up too " hey sweetheart let me swipe your head" he said leaning down and steph got up and so did bogut .
" is she okay ?" Andy said making me cough giggling at his accent .
" umm that's what I'm trying to figure out " he said looking at the thermometer .
" uhhh nope , let me check your incision " he said taking my gown down and I held it over my boobs .
" okay let's see " he said taking the bandage off and I squinted .
" ahhh alright it's infected so I'm going to start you on antibiotics and I'm gonna have Doctor grey take a look and see what she thinks about more surgery " he said and I almost cried " no I want to go to Cleveland " i whined and steph walked up to me " hey look all that's important right now is you getting better and who knows
Maybe you're fine okay calm down " he said and I shook my head crossing my arms closing my eyes .
" lex we don't have games for a week "Andy said and I grinned "really?" I asked and he shook his head "yea , sweetheart do what you need to so you're better ." He said sincere touching my cheek " I will it just sucks I miss home " I whinned making all three boys laugh " well how about I go get you some things from your room maybe your u of a blanket ?" Klay asked and I shook my head no .
" baby it might make it better ?" Steph said and I smiled taking his hand " I know daddy I just don't want any of you to leave " I said letting go and he smiled " okay how about uncle dray does it I can call him right now ?" He asked pulling out his phone and I shook my head yes " okay I'll get on that " he said dialing his phone and then a doctor came in .
" good morning Alexandra I hear that your incisions infected I just want to take a look ?" She whispered grabbing gloves walking over to me and looked at it sighed " yup definitely infected, so we're going to need to do surgery right away so " she trailed off looking at everyone and they all had gloomy looks on there faces " hang on bro , baby I love you I'll be here when you come out okay ?" Steph said kissing my cheek and I shook my head " I love you " Klay said and so did Anderson  .
" alright let's go sweetheart " she said as Alex walked in pulling up the side rails helping wheel me out .
Stephens POV
I thought the storm was over and alexandra would finally be okay but of course it's never over . We where practically in the same spot and there was nothing I could do about it .
When they took her to surgery and I knew she wouldn't hear me I lost it . " why ?!!" I yelled punching the
Wall and started crying out of the anger that made my chest burn.
" why does this keep happening lord " I looked up to god now on my knees and Klay joined me getting on his knees but instead of yelling at god he grabbed my hand to get my attention and bowed his head .
We prayed there in silence till draymond showed up .
" I brought her backpack , here's her lap top , oh and a pillow and blanket " he set stuff down and I smiled hugging him .
" thanks dray " I sighed and he smiled " no problem I know if my baby girl was in here you'd do the same " he nodded and I nodded back .
Seconds later Alex came in " is she okay ?" I asked and he shook his head yes " dr grey is closing right now , we caught the infection early so it didn't take long , they're gonna bring her up soon " he smiled and we all sighed in relief.
" thank you Alex " I said and he shook his head " no problem , I hope you don't mind but I'll be staying here today to make sure it heals correctly this time" he said and I shook my head " no problem ." I shrugged .
