Cicatrix

Part 2

After that they left and started searching for us in the opposite way we were going.  We carefully climbed down and scurried away.  I saw a gas station up ahead and decided to go in an ask if I could use someone's phone. I told Leo that there was a town about 3 miles away and that I was going  in the store to get help. He asked "what if they get you?"  and I told him "you run until you find the town and go for the police, and don't worry about me i'll make it out alive."  I left him in the bushes and went inside, I had gotten someone to let me use their phone as I was about to call for help.  I see out the glass door Leo being dragged to the van and I run outside tackling Sir to the ground and telling Leo to run.  He had a gun and tried to shoot me, but the bullet grazed the side of me.  I got a hold of the gun and he pulled the trigger. The shot was right in the head, I dropped the gun and slowly walked back not knowing what I had just done.  Then Mister grabbed me from behind and shot me in my stomach.  Leo ran towards me and started crying and Mister grabbed him and pointed the gun straight to his head.  I grabbed the gun and shot him in the stomach, but he still ended up shooting Leo in the arm and I shot him in the throat.  Leo had fallen to the ground, I scrambled towards him and called for helped.  I saw people come towards us and heard someone call 911. I was slowly losing consciousness, and then it all went black."

That is what I told the lady officer when I woke in a hospital bed, when she asked me to tell her exactly what happened.  After all that I asked "Where is Leo ? Is he okay ? Please tell me he survived, I promised him I would protect him."  And she looked at me and said "He's fine, he wouldn't stop asking about you, I'll ask them to bring him in. We will also have child services come in after, to talk about yours and Leo's family matters. Okay sweetie."  I gave her a wryly smile and nodded.  My second thought was why did I sound normal again, but I pushed that thought to the side.  Then a man came in with Leo, he had a sort of cast on his left arm, but besides that he seemed good.  He ran up to me and hugged me, I hugged him back.  He was crying,  I looked at him and said "why are you crying?"  He looked up at me and said "I'm sorry I did not run."  I gave him a  kiss on the forehead and said "It's okay, we're alive and safe."

       I picked up Leo and put him beside me, he cuddled right up to me and was peacefully falling asleep.  The officers and a lady were discussing about mine and Leo's family.  "Alusia what is Leo's last name,  It's St. John, but he told me his family was gone, I don't know what that means though."  "Alusia are you sure your last names are Lopez and Fioral. Because we can't seem to find anyone with those last names that are related to you."  "Can you check my home address? Do you think they left me? I mean I was always the black sheep of the family, but could they really leave me, and forget I ever existed."  I looked over at them the lady was on the phone and the officers were on a laptop.  They all looked at me with pity in their eyes, I hated that look, I thought how could they I was their only daughter, I got the best grades because they made me, I was the best behaved, I did sports, I did everything they said I had to do.  But for what, so they could leave me, I have Leo now, and I really want to stay with him.  My thoughts and worries were interrupted by the lady officer.  "Sweetie it says the house is vacant and the last people moved, but we have the number of the house owner.''  I wanted to cry but nothing came out all my tears were already used up.  "Call him, I want you to question him, he's always been sketchy and did a lot of things for money, just ask him if he knows anything." "Sweetie we can't question him just yet but we can look around your neighborhood and we can ask your neighbors as to what happened and we can send a request for a search warrant for the house."  I nodded at them and just thought to myself, could I ever trust someone again besides Leo, because for all I know they could leave me, and pretend I never existed, I guess I'm going to be a lone wolf again.  "Sweetie we'll be back in a few days, meanwhile you and Leo will be staying here for a week, until you're allowed to go,  afterwards you'll go to an orphanage and your social worker will talk to you about foster homes, okay?"

       I nodded and with that they left and I was left alone to think about everything that had happened, how my family abandoned me, how I shot two people and killed them, that if I had done my plan one day later it  would've ended with Leo dead, how i'm lucky to be alive.  On the outside I seemed calmed about all this but on the inside I felt like my heart was ripped in tiny pieces and my mind was just dark and scary, and the trust I had for people was shattered.  Everything inside me was broken beyond repair and worst of all my personality had changed.  I don't even know who I am anymore.  I heard a faint whimper come from beside me, Leo was having a night terror, he had one almost every night.  I hugged him tighter and whispered "Leo, remember it is your dream, you control it, and I will always be there for you, to keep you safe."  And he finally stopped whimpering and fell soundly asleep, it took me awhile,  but I finally fell asleep with no dreams.
