A few short moments passed as we trotted forward attempting to escape no mans land. I swayed to the right as a shell went flying heading and devouring where I had once been. The silence engulfed me and Trooper Warren as we avoided getting killed. In the distance I caught a glimpse of something silvery, sharp and dull. It had a couple drops of blood but apart from that it was slowly rusting away.
A loud bang took me out of my trance, it was a good aim since it shot someone in their lower stomach causing them to let out a blood-curdling scream whilst his horse reared up. Ned clung to me as the man suffered in pain, you could tell everyone wanted to help him but right now there was a shooter hidden so they would give away their hiding spots if they tried to help. Another shot came from nowhere and someone grunted in pain but Stewart lowered his hand into his holster and wrapped his fingers around a pistol. Suddenly, his hand shot up and a shrilling shot was heard along with a clank as the sniper fell out of the tree and laid there wounded whilst blood suffocated his uniform.
Everyone left the sickening area and headed north for a massacre. Soldiers versus soldiers, good versus bad. All Ned could think about was, The War. Meanwhile all I could think about was Albery. The boy had saved my life and looked after me when my mother and I were held captive. I should focus on the war, I heard steps behind me then I saw Topthorn's head.
It was like a life or death situation, actually it was. Our group was surrounded. Obviously me and Topthorn had escaped with Ned and Stewart. " Dear God, we should try and help them out. What do you think, Stewart?" But all Ned and I could hear was silence. Where did Stewart go? Ned pulled on my reins and we started heading to where there was a silhouette of two figures stood still. We could hear skulls cracking as guns hit faces, but we carried on going to the destination.
As we neared the figures, I felt warm tears dripping down my back. Then Ned's broken voice exclaimed " J-Joey t-they said th-the w-wire was g-gone. They lied, it's still there." The tears disappeared towards the end of the sentence and then he remembered the figures. The figures stood side by side as they stepped back and submerged themselves into the shadows...
