"Get out of bed this instant." My mom shouted from downstairs. I groggily got up from my incredibly soft bed and headed to the bathroom. Today was the first day of school and I was absolutely not in the mood to endure a whole semester of boring classes and thousands of assignments from teachers who seemed to have a special vendetta for all students in this school. I performed my daily routine, picked an outfit and went downstairs to the dinning room for breakfast.
"Morning mom, Morning dad." I picked an apple from the fruit basket, waiting for my brother to come downstairs. He was absolutely not a morning person just like me. Don't you sometimes get jealous of people who seemed to have kissed a rainbow every time they woke up? I mean come on, they were so bubbly in the morning it was annoying.
His royal highness finally came downstairs looking like a zombie. He pulled that look off and I couldn't help but be jealous of him. He got all the good genes from our parents. It wasn't fair. He had gorgeous blonde hair just like our mom and blue eyes just like our dad. He definitely got his muscles from dad as well. I had greyish blue eyes a mixture of both my mom and dad's. It was an odd combination but I liked it.
We left the house immediately after Jacob, my brother ate his breakfast of eggs, bacon and a cup of coffee. It was sad how our mom played the favoritism card. I was my dad's favorite so I guess it was only fair that Jacob was mom's.
"What's going on between you and Damien?" Jacob asked giving me a sideways glance before re-focusing his attention on the road.
"Nothing much. He's been really distant lately because of his numerous flings, so it's better to just leave him alone. I don't want to be the clingy best friend. Nobody likes those." The truth was I really like Damien, a lot but I knew nothing could happen between us because I was like a little sister to him. The girl falling in like with her best friend. Typical, I know.
"We're here." Jacob said, rolling up the windows and getting out of the car. I followed his lead and made my way towards my first lesson. We really wanted to live in the hostel near the school but our parents especially mom didn't want her babies (her words not mine) to live far away from her. To her we were still toddlers who needed guidance. She literally had to beg us when we refused so in the end we couldn't say no. We still had our freedom though. Well, most of the time.
"Athena!" I didn't have a second to turn when I was tackled by my best friend, Taylor. She was a petite girl with striking blue eyes and freckles gingerly spread on her nose and cheeks. She had light brown hair with blonde highlights which made her beautiful eyes pop. I was sometimes jealous of her since she was the bubbly, beautiful and athletic one whilst I was the pessimistic, smart and the cute one of the group.
"Tay, I can't.....breathe." I said trying to break free from her iron hold.
"Sorry A, I've just missed you so so much." She said sheepishly, finally releasing me from her hold.
"But we FaceTimed and texted each other when you were in Italy with your grandparents." I said giving her an amused look. She stared at me as if I was chocolate. Nobody liked chocolate as much as Taylor did. Nobody.
"Anyways, how have you been?" She asked, walking with me towards my locker. I was about to reply when I saw Damien gropping and kissing a girl by his locker. It shouldn't have affected me but all those years when I would cry silently in my bed just came flooding back and I couldn't help it when I felt a piece of heart break.
I saw Taylor giving me sad look but I just ignored it. That's what I always did anyways. I put on my best poker face and walked right past them. As soon Damien saw me, he immediately stopped kissing the girl and took long strides towards me in an attempt to speak to me but I couldn't do this anymore. It wasn't his fault that he didn't know that he was trampling all over my heart every time he dated girl after girl. Worst of all I was his confidant and to hear all the things he did with those girls was absolutely heart wrenching.
The girls washroom was up ahead, just around the corner near the water fountains. So, I increased my pace, entered the washroom as well as a clean stall and sat on the toilet seat and waiting for the first till my morning lesson began.
.
