(Picture above is what Leah looks like)
"Come on Leah, it's just another day," Leah's mother told her as they were pulling into the Karate studio they worked at.
"I know, but I thought we had today off," Leah said as she got out of the car and made her way inside.
"We did but the director needed us." Leah let aa low sigh as the walked through the doors of the studio. It was early in the afternoon so there were no students there yet. The director was a very tall and slim man, with brown hair and icy blue eyes. He was a very nice and caring person and was like a second dad to Leah. The director and his wife ran the karate school along with their son who was a year older than Leah.
"Miranda! I'm so sorry to bother you on your day off, but I really need you to help me get the studio clean. Our 10th-degree black belt is coming to visit tomorrow instead of next Friday!" Mr. Yen said.
"Don't worry Mr. Yen. My mom and I can get this place sparking by tomorrow." Leah said
"Thank you, guys. I knew I could count on you. Now I must go out and get the stuff for his welcoming ceremony and make sure everyone is aware of this occasion. I'll see you both later tonight if you guys are still here." Mr. Yen said grabbing his stuff, said a few last words to the Collins and was on his way. Leah got started with vacuuming and mopping the mat while her mom worked with the other stuff.
It was around 5:30 and Mrs. Collins and Leah were still cleaning. Mr. Yen was back and was getting prepared to teach his class. Leah was currently polishing the medals and trophies while her mother was cleaning the offices. Leah was at the front desk and was really into making each medal and trophy shine brighter than the last. She had finished polishing, hanging the medals up and putting away the trophies before her mom had finished cleaning the offices, so she has some time to kill.
Leah sat in front of the front desk and watch the students spar against each other. Leah had always had a passion to be in the karate studio but it was too expensive. She admired all of the students but one stood out to her most, Asher Mitchell. He was 16 and was the highest-ranking black belt in the school aside from Mr. and Mrs. Yen and their son. Leah admired him most because every time he fails, he comes back stronger than before and it made her want to do better.
"Alright guys, that concludes our class for tonight. Before you leave I have a very important announcement to make. Mr. Zhang Wong will be coming to visit us tomorrow instead of next Friday. Please come dressed nice and bring a food if you can." Mr. Yen said.
Once everyone left Mr. Yen wanted to see Mrs. Collins and Leah.
"I couldn't thank you enough for saving my butt with cleaning the studio, it looks great! So as a reward I'll give you a double pay and ask if you would like to come to the party tomorrow night?" He asked us. Leah was shocked because he had never asked them to come to their parties and celebrations. They only got the after mass when everyone was gone.
"Absolutely John, we'll be there. Is it ok if my husband comes as well?" Mrs. Collins asked. He nodded. They said there goodbyes and Leah and Mrs. Collins went to their car and drove home.
When they got home, Mr. Collins was already home and had just finished making spaghetti. He walked over to Mrs. Collins, kissed her cheek, and kissed Leah's head.
"How was your day kiddo?" He asked while sitting down to eat.
"It was good dad. Mr. Yen invited you, mom and I to the visitation party of Mr. Zhang." Leah said
"Did he really?"
"Yeah"Mr. Collins smiled and they continued to eat dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Collins talked about the stuff that happened at their jobs today while Leah was lost in thoughts. All she could think was her need to be in the Karate school. It was just a want when she started working at the studio 6 years ago but not it's was an overwhelming urge.
"I want to enroll in Mr. Yen's Karate school." Leah accidentally said. Her parents stared at her. Never in their life did they think she would want to be a Martial Artist.
"Leah, I'm sorry but it's too expensive." Her dad said.
"I guess when you worked at a cleaning a karate school for 6 years, you grow attached to it." He mom added. Leah slouched in her seat. Her mom was right. She did grow attached to the place mainly because she had worked there for so long and that was inspired by the other students as well.
They had finished dinner and Leah was getting ready for bed. She told her parents goodnight when upstairs to take her shower and then went to bed. She laid there just think about what her dad had told her. It's too expensive. Her family wasn't a rich family but they weren't poor either. They could afford a nice house, nice car, clothes and had a stable amount of food. They even got a bonus here and there. Leah was sad but was happy she at least got to work at a karate studio with nice people. She could work for a mean dude who was very picky about how things were done or she maybe wouldn't have a job at all. Sleep overtook her and she fell into a deep sleep.
