Talk To A Character and/or Talk As A Character

All writers are insane, so you might as well embrace it.
Whether you are struggling to create new ideas for a story, or you are trying to figure out what you want to happen next in your story, talking to a character can always help.
If you are not sure how to continue your story, choose one of the characters (one that would fit well in what is currently happening in the story), and start talking to them. Maybe you choose to talk to the main character. Talk to them about how they feel, what they want to do, or anything that could really affect the plot at the moment. Other characters you could talk to are the friends of the main character, side kicks, enemies, or any other characters that will affect the plot and/or the characters' personalities and actions.
You might be having a difficult time coming up with a new story. If that is the case, just think of a random name and start talking to them.
The conversation can depend on what genre you want to write. If you want to write a horror book, you might want to talk to an "imaginary" friend (which all writers know aren't really imaginary) or maybe you can act like they are talking in your head. Whatever genre you are writing, just come up with a random name and have a conversation with the character that fits in with that genre, or talk as or for that character with another person (just don't tell them it's for a story, that could make it harder and less exciting and hilarious).
This helped me today. I am trying to write a horror story, but I had writer's block. So I started talking to this random guy named Robert, and he kept telling me things. I started letting him tell me what to tell my mom and what I should do. I was pretty much doing improv, and I soon had ideas for my characters. I had an idea from the character that I was listening to, from myself, and from my mom. All three of these people gave me an idea for story characters, and the 10 minute scene that I just made up as it happened gave me an idea for a plot. That was just from letting my inner writer show.
As I said in the beginning, every writer is insane, some just have a harder time showing it. You just have to embrace the writer (also known as psychopath) inside of you.
