Hermione grinned at Harry and Ron as the cell door slammed shut in front of the last lot death eaters with a loud clang that echoed around the almost silent halls of Azkaban. As they apparated away, though, she felt something weird.

As soon as they stopped, she ran to the nearest bathroom, and stared at the mirror with growing horror. Her hair grew longer, darker, and straighter as her face shape changed and her eyes turned a stormy grey as they widened as she took in her new appearance.

She left the bathroom, and walked over to her friends to tell them what was going on when a pretty woman, who looked like Hermione now did but in her mid-thirties, ran over, tears pouring down her face.

"Cassiopeia! You're back! Oh, I missed you so much, darling!" She yelled happily.

Hermione stared at her in shock.

"What? Me?"

"Yeah, obviou- Oh, wait, of course you don't know." She started crying harder.

"Umm... I don't know what you're talking about but you could explain it to me...." She said, eager to get this sobbing woman to calm down.

"Sorry. You probably still think you're Hermione Granger."

"Hermione?!" Ron and Harry shouted, shocked. They quickly came over. "What-?"

"But that's not your real name." The woman continued, ignoring the boys. "Your real name is Cassiopeia Black, and I, Maria Black, am your mother."

"Black? So you're related to Sirius?"  Harry asked.

"Sirius? Wasn't that like Cissy's cousin who got kicked out of the family for going against the Black beliefs?" Maria replied, frowning.

"Ugh. Fine then! Hermione, have fun with your death eater family! We're going." Harry said angrily. Ron nodded.

"Yeah! See ya!" He said, laughing meanly in her face.

"Oi! Come back here! If I hit a nerve, I'm sorry, and anyway, I never said we followed those beliefs!" Maria yelled after them.

It was too late, though, as Harry had already disappeared into the floo, while Ron just made a rude gesture and followed him.

"Oh, Cassie, darling, I'm so sorry." Maria said to the girl who had just collapsed and was now sobbing into her arms.

Hermione - no, Cassiopeia - hugged her real mother tightly and felt the warmth that only a mother can give that she hadn't realised had been missing from her adoptive mother for all these years.

"Mum."  She choked, and Maria hugged her tighter, her tears flowing freely. "Don't worry. I'll get them back later. They would have died long ago if it wasn't for me."

Maria smiled softly down at her and helped her to her feet.

"That's my girl, Cassie. Now come on, let me show you your real home." The two disapparated, leaving behind the old Hermione Granger.
