The trio lay asleep under a large tree, the full moon crawling higher into the midnight sky. A light breeze drifts through the bushes, bringing in a heavy winter fog. The eerie cry of an unfamiliar pokemon echoes through the forest, coming ever closer to the small group. A musharna slowly floats towards them through the thick fog, barely visible as the fog starts blocking out the moon's light. It touches Eclipse, then drifts back into the seemingly endless fog surrounding them.

~Eclipses POV~

Laying on my stomach, a wind blowing through my fur, a lock of my thick, silver-blue neck fur laps at my face. Rays of morning sun are shining through the leaves above me. Not sensing anyone near me, I suddenly snap awake. Today's the day I'm officially three weeks old. Is this their idea of a birthday joke?

I drowsily scramble to my feet looking around for any trail of where my family has gone. Where's my mother? She's a bold, brave Leafeon. She would never leave behind a kit, right? Where's my siblings? I still smell their Scents on our grass beds, so they can't be far.

I smell for a trail. I catch the scent of my family. Me and my siblings were named after what type we were destined to evolve into. There's Blizzard and Thunder, the bold, brave, daring duo. Then there's Peach and Aqua. My only two sisters, they're both mainly nurturing and caring, a tiny bit timid, but still braver than me.

Then I catch the strong scent of my mother. Ever since our dad... left us... there's been males wandering into our territory threatening to kill me and my siblings to gain her as a mate. She'd been thinking about moving on for awhile. My thoughts are disrupted by a high pitched voice, my sister, Aqua.

"Ecliiiiiipse! 'Cmon! Moms leaving Without ya!" I snap back to reality. Aqua pounces, out of breath, in front of me. She doesn't get any time to speak, because right after she pounces out of the nearest bush, my mother comes gracefully leaping into our little clearing.

"Aqua! Get back here right now!" Mother's voice sounds harsh and strict. our three other siblings are clinging onto her back.

"Not without Eclipse!" She yells. My mother seems almost mad at me. I wonder why? She's been meaner to me than my other siblings as long as I can remember. She slowly approaches me, keeping her graceful stature the entire time.

"Eclipse," she says in her hard voice, speaking to me as if I were prey. She hesitates before continuing. "I must tell you. Today we were planning on leaving you behind. The male intruders have become more frequent, and the prey in this area has been dying out." ...was she trying to say... that she was leaving me?

My chest tightened and tears began to well up in my eyes, I started to blink them away to stay strong in front of my siblings. "I can't support five kits any longer. Four is fine, and..."

She pauses, then continues "...and I just cant have a damn shiny kit letting all the predators know where we are! Your coat attracts Pokemon who will kill us, Eclipse. That's not what I want for the rest of us!" she's almost screaming now. Tears are streaming down my face, I can't keep strong any longer. "You're lucky your father didn't let me kill you at birth! I let you endanger us, and look how that turned out! Your Brother was killed! Your father was killed!" Thoughts are swirling in my head, I'm crouched in a ball now. It wasn't really my fault! I-It couldn't have been!

She begins to pick up aqua by the scruff, but she scratches mother's muzzle and scrambles to my side after being dropped onto the ground by the surprised leafeon. "Not without my brother." She declares as tears begin to fill her eyes, too. This is the bravest I've ever seen her. Mother turns reluctantly away, our siblings staring at us wondering what would happen to us.

"Momma? What about my little brother and sister?" asked Blizzard. I never got why we were called "younger". He just was born several minutes before the rest of us. I was last.

Mother just keeps walking in the opposite direction. Aqua and I stare at her until the shadows of the forest consume her, leaving us alone and unprotected in the heart of the woods.

Collapsing to the ground in tears, I stare up at my sister. Her thick, silky brown fur look like strings of gold as they catch the rays of the setting sun. She puts her paw on my shoulder, and I feel her tears hitting my back. She lays down next to me, huddling close to keep warm as the winter moon creeps higher into the sky.

~End POV~

Eclipse Snaps awake, his head quickly lifting up. Tears in his eyes, he looks around at his sleeping mate and new friend. He wipes the tears off his face, and settles back into his sleeping position, cuddling into his thick black fur, watching his breath mist out into the night air until he drifts off to sleep.
