Danger Will Follow Me

My fear was irrational. There was nothing that the cops had that they could use to accuse me of kidnapping one of my best friends, but that didn’t stop the fear from coursing through my veins. The fear had me locked up so tight that I couldn’t speak, couldn’t breath, without feeling as if my life was crashing around me.

Ariadne and Jacob were arguing. She wanted them to say fuck the cops and look for Ivy on their own, but Jacob was saying that there was no way they would be able to do anything the cops couldn’t.

“You don’t want to find her do you?” Ariadne accused, anger swirling in her pale, blue eyes.

"You know I want to find her as much as anyone else, Ari! It's just that we have to be smart about this. We know nothing about who took her or even if this person is still hanging around town," Jacob said, his hands clenching at his sides.

Jacob was a pretty easy going guy unless you provoked him. Although it was only with Ariadne that he got the most frustrated. I never understood their relationship but I guess I didn't understand most relationships, not even my own.

My gaze wandered over to Trevor. I didn't know what it was about him but ever since Jacob found me and brought me into their little circle, Trevor has been the one I turn to if I need help. I mean, I know I can talk to the others and I do, but Trevor has this calmness and this sweetness about him that I find refreshing and different.

"I think we should do it," my quiet voice broke through their incessant yelling. "Find her I mean. The cops surely aren't going to look hard enough for her and I don't want to be blamed for killing one of my best friends. I've done some pretty heavy shit in the past but this is something I'm innocent of and I'll be damned if I get blamed for it," my voice became stronger with each sentence I spoke, my determination to find the bastard who took Ivy wrapping around me like a blanket.

Everyone stared at me, slightly surprised by my outburst. I don't know why they were. It wasn't like I ever held in my opinion before and I wasn't going to hold it in now just because the cops tried to scare me.

"Thank god someone agrees with me," Ariadne said, grinning at me before turning to glare at Jacob. "I think it's decided. We're looking for her."

Jacob threw up his hands, shaking his head in exasperation. "Fine, but where do we start?"

"The website," Trevor said, his quick thinking always giving us the answers we needed.

"How's the website going to help?" Ari asked, a strange look on her face. I was going to have to ask her about that later.

"Think about it," he said, looking at all of us in turn, "hundreds of people comment on that thing daily. I'm sure the person who took her has too. It's not that big of a stretch. Especially if the person is some sick bastard like we all think he is."

"And if the website gets us nowhere?" Jacob asked.

"Then we search her stuff, but more thoroughly than the cops did. I'm sure Mrs. Taylor won't mind if Ari asks to go in Ivy's room. They were best friends after all," Trevor said, looking at Ariadne.

"Getting into Ivy's room won't be a problem. Her parents are rarely there and I still have the spare key that Ivy gave me," she responded, nodding her head in agreement.

I was so glad that Trevor was on our side. Finding who took Ivy didn't seem as impossible with him telling us what we needed to do in order to be successful. It was like he had all the answers and for how lost we all seemed with Ivy gone, we needed a crutch.

"What if we do both at the same time? That way if one person finds something they can just call the other with what they found. It'll save more time and we'll cover more ground that way," I suggested, crossing my legs and leaning forward.
