The next school year came and Adeline was even more determined to make new friends. She would practice in her head what to say and how to act so she wouldn't embarrass herself.  She would practice in the mirror and say, "Hi! I'm Adeline! What your name?" She would say it in different tones and make sure it was perfect. The first day of school, she entered her new room to see her new classmates. The room had colorful posters all over the walls and a desk that had the teacher sitting, looking at her computer. There were about 20 kids socializing with each other. Adeline looked around to see if Connor was anywhere in sight, but he was no where. That year he was in a different classroom. A few days later they passed by each other during recess but never smiled or waved or a "Hello" or "What's up". They passed by each other like strangers. Adeline wanted to say hello, yet she didn't. She was suddenly nervous around him and wondered why he didn't too. Was he nervous just like Adeline? Adeline questioned herself why she would be so scared to be around him. Why? Why her best friend? Adeline made new a friend in her classroom named Kayla. Kayla was a lot like Adeline. They both loved to sing, they were quiet, and had the same things, like dolls and stuffed animals. Kayla was a tan, blonde. She had extremely long hair and wore small glasses. They would have sleepovers all of the time! One day they stopped talking. Adeline would always loose friends for some weird reason. Some of them would move away or never talked to her again. She thought she had a curse. The only one she wanted to be comforted by was Connor. Connor was different from all of her friends. He was the only boy. The only one that warmed her heart. Yet, she had no clue why. He felt the same. Adeline just never knew. That's why they were strangers.
