Leah's Open House
Leah stood in the doorway of the banquet hall as she scoured the crowded parking lot for her father's navy Buick Century. It was nowhere to be found.
"Is he here?"
Mischa asked as she stepped onto the porch.
"No. I hope that he shows up and is not somewhere to drunk to drive."
"He'll come, don't trip. Heeey Turk."
Mischa assured before she flirted away in the direction of Leah's cousin, Turk.
Mischa was Leah's best, city friend. She'd taken a forty minute bus ride from the city to be with her friend on the day of her open house. Leah had decided that she was going to ride the bus back to the city with Mischa instead of her mother driving her.
Her mother was steadfast against it and had already determined that it was a bad idea but Leah didn't much mind. She finally felt free. Her mother had always treated her like a child and now that she was graduating high school and moving to the city with her father who had never even given her a curfew. Her mother was livid.
She had already enrolled in Cooper City University, against her mother's will. Gotten a part-time job at a high-end department store only blocks away from the university, also against her mother's will.
As far as her mother knew, Leah was going to be living with her father during the week and coming home on the weekends.
Leah was not with that at all. She had convinced her father to come to her open house to help her mother be comfortable with the transition and that Leah should live in the city with him.
Leah knew that, technically, she was grown but she knew that she would feel better about leaving if she knew that she had her mother's blessing.
"Hey Babygirl."
"Hey Uncle Junior."
Leah greeted as she hugged her mothers baby brother.
"Congratulations."
He said as he handed her a puffy envelope.
In addition to owning the most successful barber shop in town , he also ran the only numbers racket in town.
Leah knew that the envelope was fat for a reason. Being his only niece had its perks.
"Ok, it's settled. We can ride with Turk to The Barn and he said that he'll stay too. He's cute, how old is he?"
"Ummm, I think that Turk is twenty-one."
"Perfect. He'll purchase our drinks as well."
Mischa smiled.
" We Out?"
"Hell yeah. Let me put my box in my mothers car, then Turk can take me home to change."
"Hurry up, Turk is waiting for us."
"Ok, Dante is Supposed to meet us there. He has been acting so funny lately, you know, about me movin."
"Why? I thought that he was going to Alabama State?"
"He is."
Leah confirmed as she opened the hatch to her mother's wagon and placed her gift box inside and closed the hatch.
"Ok, I'm a tell my mother that I'm leaving and give her the keys."
"Um hmm..."
Mischa was hardly paying any attention as she was being seriously felt up by Cousin Turk. Leah wasn't Surprised that her cousin had gotten his eye on Mischa, she was pretty she had the shape and the extra round bottom. Turk was a playboy. He was always with another pretty girl. Usually, Leah kept Turk away from her friends, but she knew that she didn't have to worry about Mischa, she was a seek and conquer kind of girl; she wasn't a falling in love type of girl. She saw that Turk was her ticket around town for the night. Maybe some free drinks.
