You're sitting on a dock with Jay. Fireworks going off over the lake. When you rest your head on his shoulder, he starts humming “High and Low” while he wraps his arms around you. As the fireworks go off, filling the sky with your favorite colors, your feet in the water, your hands intertwine together. When you think the fireworks are over, you relax, but one fires off and scares you. He smiles and says, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you.”
You blush and look into his eyes. Watching how the moon and the rest of the firework makes his blue eyes light up. He flashes you a lopsided grin, making you giggle. “I love your laugh.” He comments, tucking a tray strand of hair behind your ear.
“Well, I love yours.” You smile, melting into his hand. Getting goose bumps as his hand brushes your cheek and ear. He pauses, looking at your lips. He leans in, getting closer … closer … and closer until BAM! A fire work sounds, and he falls in. You look around in the water, trying to contain your laughter. You smile when you see a head with curls soaked, bobbing in the water. “Are you okay, Bird?” You call, failing to contain your laughter.
Jay blushes and indignantly pulls himself back onto the dock. “That wasn’t funny.” He mutters.
“Oh, but it was.” You laugh.
“Would you like to be pushed into the water?” He asked in mock annoyance.
“You weren’t pushed in. You were scared.” You say moving some curls out of his face that are sticking to his forehead. He holds your hand to his face as he closes his eyes. “What?” You asked.
“This is perfect. This moment right here.”
You smile up at him. “It is, isn’t it?” You whisper to him. Looking at how perfect he is in the moonlight.
“Now, what were we doing before I … fell?” You shrug. He smiled, brushing his lips against yours. As he pulls away, you pout.
“Not fair.” You say.
“I’m such a tease.” He states.
“I can be a tease too.” You poke your tongue out at him. You move away from him, crossing your arms over your chest, ignoring him playfully.
“Babe,” He whines.
“What?” You smirk. He starts to use his puppy dog eyes; he knows they kill you. “Jay, stop it.”
“Stop what?” He grins.
“That … those … this! That’s not fair.” You whine pointing to his face. He chuckles and keeps giving you the puppy dog eyes, hoping you crack.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, love.” He says all-too-innocently.
“Calling me ‘love’ won’t work either, babe.” It totally would though.
“But love, your amazing love, I just want to kiss you love, please love.” He pouts using love over and over again. You shake your head trying not to cave in to him and his ways.
You cover your ears and shut your eyes. “LA LA LA! I can’t hear you!” You say. Ignoring your loudness, Jay brings you closer to him. His hands go to your sides, and he starts to lightly tickle you with a mischievous grin. “Jay, what are you doing?” You ask, peeking through one eye.
“Oh, nothing … love.” He smirks. He starts to tickle you more, leaving you gasping for breath between laughs.
“Jay! J-JAY, stop- STOP IT!”
“Stop what, love?” He asked innocently. “I’m not doing anything.”
“STOP TICKLING M-ME!” You laugh, trying to grab his hands.
“Oh no you don’t!” He laughs, pushing your hands away. “You need to give me a kiss on the cheek first!”
“No!” You giggle.
“C’mon, just on the cheek?”
“What do I get? You ask, crossing your arms.
“Erm … to kiss me on the cheek? He smiled sheepishly.
“You're not funny.” You pout.
“You know you love me.” He says simply.
“Fine. Just on the cheek?” You ask. He nods his head in confirmation. You start to lean in, about to get his cheek, when he turns his head, making your lisp crash into his. He smiles into the kiss. Pulling back, you yell, “You liar!”
“I don’t lie love.” He grins like a child.
“You said cheek, last time I checked, those were your lips.” You say.
“You liked it though.” He said, pulling you closer to him.
“… maybe …”
“Don’t deny it. You’re a terrible liar anyway,” He winked.
You sigh. “Okay … it was good.” You give him a shy smile, blushing.
“It was great cause I’m an amazing kisser.” He said in a matter of fact tone.
“Don’t flatter yourself.” You smirk.
“You don’t think I’m a good kisser?!” He asked in mock shock.
“I’ve had better … Nathan’s pretty good.” You joke. His face drops, mouth hanging open. “Are you catching flies, sweetheart?” He stays quiet, scooting away. “I was only joking Jaybird! You’re the only guy I’ve ever kissed.”
Shock crossed his face. “Really?” He asks.
You look at the water, embarrassed a bit, blushing. “Yeah…” You mumbled. “I’m a loser, I know.” You laugh nervously, and look up at him.
“You’re not a loser. You’re amazing.” He murmurs, pulling you into his arms again. “It’s an honor to be trusted with your first kiss.”
You smile up at him. “How did I deserve you?” You ask.
“I think the question is, how did I deserve you.” He whispered in your ear.
You turn around and look him in the eyes. Ocean blue. You’ve always loved that color. Smiling, you snuggle into his chest. “Y/N?” You hear.
“Mhm?”
“I love you.” Your smile widens.
“I love you too, Jay.” You take in the beauty of the moment as the moon rises. You hook his hand with yours, giving it a light squeeze, trying to get closer to him, snuggling up to him. “This is perfect..” You whisper.
“You know how I like writing songs for you?” He asks. You nod. “I don’t think any thread of words I put together could do this justice.” You smile, looking up at him. Your eyes wandering all over his face, falling onto his lips. “Does someone want a kiss?” He whispered, a smile tugging at his lips. You blush and laugh softly.
“Yes…” You sigh. He can read you so well. He chuckles and lifts your face up to reach his. Looking into your eyes one last time, he smiles and gently kisses you, your lips falling into sync with his. You smile into the kiss. His lips sending electricity through your body, sending shivers down your spine. You pull away, and lean your forehead with his, looking into his amazing eyes that you get lost in every time you look into them.
“What are you thinking about?” He breathes. You look at your hands. The answer was embarrassing to say out loud.
“Your eyes. They’re pretty.”
He laughs quietly. “Not as pretty as you.” He whispers, putting a finger under your chin, looking you in the eyes. “You're beautiful, Y/N.” You lean back into his arms, closing your eyes. The breeze from the lake makes you shiver. Jay notices and takes his jacket off, wrapping it around you. It smells like him. “Sweet dreams, love.” is the last thing you hear before you drift off into sleep.
