Three years ago my mother won the lottery. Everyone kept saying how lucky we were to have so much money, never having to work again. They all said how blessed we were that we could do whatever we wanted. But it was all a sham. Behind my mothers back, people pointed and whispered, trying to think of ways to get the money from my mother. One old woman came to her asking for help with paying off her dying daughters medical bills. My mother, being as kind as she was, went with the woman to visit the girl, and to discuss with the woman a way of putting payments into a bank account for the girl. Half way through the visit however, a nurse let it slip that the girl had no relatives, so it was nice to see her having visitors. My mother thanked her and turned around to leave the hospital But before we left she filled out necessary paperwork to take over the payments. We never saw the girl again.
Another time a man came to the house looking for her, and barged into the house, only to run out as my dog chased him out. He claimed dog attack after breaking his leg falling down the front porch steps, but was denied in court by the video evidence against him. We have video survalance at the house.
The last straw for my mom was when the principal at my school called me into his office to discuss my grades. But instead of talking about my grades, he made a very inappropriate move towards me. I had tried to get out the door but he had it locked. It wasn't until his secretary used her key to get into the room because of my screams for help that I was able to dash out the door. My mom made sure he went to jail, and I was told he would never be able to work at a school again, or with any minor ever again.
After that, my mom took to homeschooling me. She kept talking about how corrupt the world was, how people could change in the blink of an eye, and how it was only survival of the fittest. She got it into her head that we had to self-sustain ourselves, so she started taking me on camping trips, learning how to start fires and forage for food. And that was the beginning of the reat of my life.
