The place was overrun by the disease. Contamination was quick in this confined space where only 10 people live... or lived for most of them. Out of the 10 crew members, none of them are left. Except for me.

The infected are locked up in section 4, the isolation one. That's what the only doctor on board told us to do, "Lock them up. Open the door only once you reach the Earth", she said. Now she is in there too. I don't even know if they are still alive.

Julia was our only chance to reach Earth, she as the pilot. She got infected two or three days ago. I can't even remember what day we are today; it's been so long since we are out there. When she saw the symptoms, she immediately warned me and asked me to put her back there. She is the last person I will probably ever see.

We don't even know where it comes from. We were heading back towards Earth since our mission was over. We hit a comet undetected by the radars; damaging the air condition and the commands that included the radio. Two days later, Elizabeth, one of the mechanics, started to get nauseous too often. She started to get high fever too often so our doctor, Sarah, decided to put her into quarantine into section 4. After that day, it went by fast. The 9 other crew members showed up with the same symptoms: high fever, nausea, excruciating chest pain, headaches...

It's been three weeks that we are out there, in space and two since we lost contact with Earth and that the first infected showed up. Since Julia is gone, I turned off all the machines, deactivated the air conditioner and tried hopelessly to reach Earth. Calling out Mayday, mayday, mayday...

I let myself drift off in here, admiring the last thing I will ever see: the stars and the infinity emptiness. No more food, no more water, no more air and no more hope.

It is 6.45 pm according to the small clock I kept on my wrist. I reached the control room and turn on the machines and the radio.

"If anybody can hear me, this is spaceship Alpha number 8.0.6. I am the last survivor of an unknown disease who showed up after a collision with a comet. Our machines got damages and no more pilots are on board. If anyone can hear me, please respond. We are lost and we don't have any more supplies on board. This is spaceship Alpha, number 8.0.6. If anybody can hear me, please respond. Mayday, mayday, mayday... please respond. Copy." I said on the edge of crying, only to be answered by the usual statics. I fell back in my chair, breathed one last time.

"This was spaceship Alpha number 8.0.6. No survivors are left." I said slowly and in a low voice. I look at the pain killer on the control panel in front of me. Not any left. I looked by the small round window on my left and saw the black bags under my eyes and the redness of my face due to the high fever. I exhale one last time, let my head fall back and closed my eyes.

I am infected too.

(A/N)

I actually wrote this one-shot during a boring history class. I decided to post it because, I liked it. I also love this kind of writing and find it inspiring. It is only a one-shot so no other parts will be aded
