I stared at my bedroom ceiling, thinking. A sigh released from my mouth as I sat up. My reflection in my mirror staring back at me. My hair was a mess, I had bags under my eyes, and I had that everlasting frown on my face. I yawned and got off my bed, walking to my closet and pulling out my waitress uniform. I gave it a death glare. My hatred for my job and that..revealing uniform made me sick. I only work at the cafe because it gives good pay. My moment of hatred was interrupted by a loud bang that came from the kitchen. My adrenaline pumped and I ran straight to the situation.
" Charlie?! What's wrong..?! What happened?! Are you hurt?!"
After I said those words, I got a good look at the little one. Milk was spilt all over him and the wooden floor. I cracked a smile and chuckled.
" what did you do..?"
" I was getting some milk with my cookie..I didn't mean to spill.." Charlie responded sheepishly. I walked over to the small boy and picked him up.
" You should've asked for help kiddo..you can't even reach the top of the counter.."
" I know..I'm sorry.." Charlie frowned.
" It's Okay..it's time for your bath anyways!" I smiled. Charlie then smiled as well.
" Yay!"
We walked to the bathroom. I started the water and Charlie stripped off his clothes, getting in the warm tub. I mixed the shampoo around in my hands before beginning to travel my hands in Charlie's hand, filling it up with shampoo. Charlie played with the toys in the tub.
" Aaahh! Shark!!" He yelled, before splashing the water. I laughed at this. Charlie was the only person who brought me joy. After drenching Charlie's hair with shampoo, I scooped up water with a mini plastic bucket. Then, I tipped the bucket over Charlie's head, rinsing the shampoo off. He let out a giggle and I repeated the process of washing his hair again with conditioner. After that, I washed his body, etc, etc.
" Lauren!!" Charlie called for me.
" I'll be in there in a second!" I replied, preparing Charlie's before bed snack, which was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of warm milk. After preparing the mini meal, I put all on a tray and walked into Charlie's room. He was sitting up, waiting for me in his black and white music note footies. A grin appeared on his face when I entered the room. A book was in front of him. I looked at the cover, "The Puppy Who Found The Rainbow", it said. I sat next to charlie, setting the tray with his cookie and milk on his nightstand. His head laid gently on my shoulder. We both got comfortable as I started to read Charlie's book to him. Every now and then, charlie would take a bite of his cookie or take a sip of his milk. By the time I finished reading, Charlie was already passed out on my shoulder. I sat up and tucked him in, kissing him on the forehead before shutting off his nightlight and closing the door behind me as I walked out of the bedroom.
I stripped my clothes off until all I had left on was my undergarments. I threw in a large shirt on and shut my lights off. I hopped into bed and fell asleep. I honestly didn't think I'd get a good dream that night. I haven't for years. My life is shit. The only thing keeping me from taking my life is Charlie. Can this hell please end..? I'd do anything.
