Hello, this is the first time that I have used Wattpad and also the first time I have written a story so I hope it doesn't suck and I hope you enjoy it! I'm writing this story because I love the Hunger Games but through out the whole series wondering what Prim's point of veiw would be. So I thought about it and I think that this is what she would be thinking during the Reaping and The Hunger Games.
Chapter1:
I wake up in the middle of the night from a disturbing dream about the Hunger Games. I roll over to see my sister Katniss stirring from a horrible nightmare, probably the one from when my Father was killed in the mine explosion. So I quietly hop into bed with my mother, hoping not to rouse her from her sleep. I look through the tiny window and out into the Seam, the nickname for where I live in District 12. The moon is full and gives off enough light for me to make out the little flower which Katniss was named after, then I see the little Primrose next to it as if to symbolise my own family. When my cat Buttercup jumps up on the bed to snuggle with me, I remember that today might be the last day I see District 12 and my family. I can't help but be worried, scared not for me but for Katniss. Her name is in the reaping bowl 24 times, 24 chances that Effie the crazy District 12 representative from the Capitol will pull out a small piece of paper with Katniss Everdeen written in small cursive writing. I know that Katniss will wake up soon to go hunting with Gale in the woods past the district border. They say the fence is to stop the wild animals from coming into the district, but it's more likely to be so that the people of District 12 have one less food source. It must be about 1am when I remember I'm only 12 and need lots of sleep, especially if I end up going to the Capitol to participate in The Hunger Games.
When I next wake up, it must be around dawn and I see the sun rising, like the anxiety in my body as I remember whats happening today. I almost feel angry at the older generation of Panem. Why did they have to rebel? Did they think it through, about how it would affect us now? They probably thought they would win. And anyway, who would have thought the President could come up with something like The Hunger Games- where they take one girl and one boy from each district called tributes, then the Capitol put them in an arena to fight to the death until a lone victor stands. The whole point of the Hunger Games is to say 'We wont kill you- we will kill your children and make you watch so you don't rebel against us again.' And it works. I remind myself that these are not things to say out loud. I hop out of bed silently and shuffle down the hallway to the kitchen where I see the goats cheese I left as my present to Katniss on reaping day has been accepted and taken from it's spot on the tiny table in our kitchen. I decide to go and milk my goat Lady and get fresh milk and toast for my mother for breakfast.
As I move silently down the hall to the bedroom, I hear movement coming from the bedroom. I move to the door and see my Mother looking through her wardrobe. She has set a blouse and a skirt on her bed for me, my reaping clothes. It's the same outfit Katniss wore on her first reaping. When I think about Katniss, I realise she's not home from the woods yet. Katniss is usually home by now. I think maybe I should go to the Meadow to see if she's near the fence, but I dismiss the thought because I know she's at the Hob- the local black market that works in an old warehouse . The Hob is where Katniss trades game for the other things we need, like buttons and shoelaces. In District 12 there are shops, but only merchants and the rich citizens can afford to buy from them. Every time Katniss takes me to the square, I ask if we can look at the cakes in the bakery. Mother spots me, then tells me to put on the cothes and get ready for the reaping. The reaping takes place in the square at 2pm. When the time nears, the Peacekeepers will come around and tell us to head to the square and if you don't you will be taken into custody.
I get ready and go to find my mother who is making some broth for lunch when Katniss walks in. She comes up and gives me a hug and tells my I look beautiful. Katniss must be able to sense my fear of what's happening today because she says "Your name's only in there once Prim. They're not going to pick you." I nod and smile lightly, but I know my name is only in the reaping bowl once. It's not me I'm worried about- it's Katniss. Just after Katniss is ready, there is a knock at the door and my Mother must know it's the Peacekeepers because she tells us to get ready to leave before she goes to the door. After the Peacekeepers finally leave we start to walk to the square. We walk in and my mother kisses us, then goes to join the other parents around the perimeter of the square when Katniss tells me it's time to sign in. We sign in and I find the group of 12 year olds. I stand next to some of the people in my class at school. Good, it's not just me who is scared out of there wits. The reaping starts with Mayor Underseed reading a manditory speech and then the picking of the tributes begin. Effie tells us how much of an honor it is to represent District 12, but everyone knows she really wants to have a better district. Then she says "To start the reaping- ladies first." She crosses over to the big bowl with all the girls names in it and picks one out from the very bottom of the bowl. She crosses the stage back to the microphone and opens the piece of paper and reads in her screecy Capitol accent "Our triubute girl is Primrose Everdeen!!" My heart sinks as I process what she says.
