Y/N POV
I craved to feel that dipping, sinking feeling. I hadn't slept in so long. Not deeply anyway.
I heard the music from the radio envelope me in it's familiar lyrics that almost drowned out my underlying fear.
But my fatigue quickly took me. I hoped my dreams would not be anything I had seen in the past few months.I balanced on my tippy toes, across the floor littered with sparkles. Why did my feet hurt? I looked down and saw my feet cramped in a glittery pair of shoes that matched the overhanging decorations.
Decorations? Music? I would smile if I didn't have an uneasy feeling about my surroundings.
"Don't panic y/n"
Like that had ever worked for me before. But with that thought, I took a moment to breathe and relax a little.
This was fun! It was... pretty.
Scanning the room, I grinned as I saw Mike and Eleven dancing closely. If they were here, the others wouldn't be far away!
"Excuse me!" I called out, trying to push my way through the masses of high school kids.
Where was Lucas? I had missed him so much. Plus I wanted to know if he and Max had gotten together yet.
"Dustin!" I called out, spotting the now gelled curly hair. He looked hilarious, but more grown up at the same time.
"Dustin!" I tried again, but he didn't turn away from the girl he was dancing with. Must've been the loud music.Where was Will? I needed to find him. I needed to hug him and tell him how much I missed him.
My eyes scanned the long wooden chair where lots of people were sitting, but I didn't recognise any of them.
Maybe I should ask someone...
I moved uncomfortably in the dress I was wearing. I'd never worn one like this. I kinda liked it, the fabric was mostly f/c, but it felt a little itchy around my stomach.
I sighed, frustrated in my search. But then, I saw the cute bucket haircut on a boy in a neat suit. I giggled and began rushing towards him, until I saw he was dancing with a girl.
"They seem so happy" I whispered.
Why am I sad?
" Keep your words to yourself!" I scolded, not even realising the words had slipped my mouth.
No one seemed to notice my frown or my harsh words. I felt cold dampness hit me as they turned.
It was her! That girl. I knew her from somewhere! She was there, that day. In the lab when I had made the plants move and I had escaped. Her father had been there, he was the one Papa wanted to impress.
I didn't hurt her, so I hoped she hadn't come to hurt me. There she was, dancing with will.
She was dancing with will. And I was here. The daughter of the man that told me to kill that homeless person. She had smiled, through the glass. They thought I couldn't see them. I couldn't, but I knew.
I had heard her father, a faint voice that ordered me to "do it!" When I broke out, she was so scared. But the glint in her eyes hadn't left.
I backed away slowly, until they turned again. They started to lean in close.
I heard a voice, and I came crashing out of my sleep.
"Two, we're home!"
I whispered before I opened my eyes,
"Was it real?"
