Hey so I started this fanfiction and I posted it, but then I wanted to change it so here's the new version. Disclaimer: I do not own the Walking Dead or any of the characters in it, I only own Riley, Xandra, Arthur, and Bowen.

I had never thought the end of the world would come so quickly. I definitely did not think I would lose everything I had in the blink of an eye. I had everything: a loving family, a roof over my head, and I had a life. It all changed one hot July afternoon in the middle of New York City.

“Hey, Riley, could you pass me the remote?” Arthur, my older sister’s boyfriend asked me as he plopped onto the sofa. The brown stone we lived in was pretty small, compared to other ones in the Brooklyn. The whole downstairs was one room, the kitchen, the dining room and the living room in 30 square meters. There was a corridor that led to a bathroom and a door that led out of the house. Up stairs wasn’t that much bigger, there were only three bedrooms. One for my parents, one for my older sister, Xandra, and the other I had to share with my little brother, Bowen. He was fourteen and was one of the most annoying teenage boys ever.

I grabbed the remote from the tv stand and handed it to him. The Fifa world cup had been going on and he was a huge soccer fan.

“Lazy butt,” I stated childishly. He chuckled and turned the television on. Arthur acted like this was his house. It kind of was, because he spent all his time over here, hanging out with Xandra, and Bowen and I. He had been Xandra’s friend before they became boyfriend and girlfriend. It was so obvious that they liked each other. It look Bowen and I four months and many tries for them to admit their feelings. I still remember that day, it was last spring, and Bowen and I were out of ideas. We had tried all the tricks. Accidental hand touching, making them go to the movies with us when in truth we would just ditch them and go buy ice cream sundaes. We even did the whole ‘ring in my glass’ thing. That was fun. But finally, when we were completely out of ideas, that’s when Xandra actually kissed him. I remember afterwards, Bowen and I walked up to them and congratulated them. Their faces were priceless, we should have taken pictures.

“Right back at ya, Princess Poo,” he replied, smiling. I rolled my eyes and took my seat next to him on the sofa.

“So who’s playing?” I asked as the television showed a scene of two people in green jerseys trying to steal the ball from a man in a red jersey.

“Uhh, Spain against Nigeria, I think.” Arthur said, trying to concentrate on the game. I sighed and checked my watch. It said 12:17.

A little later Xandra, down stairs. I smiled as she walked up to the sofa.

“Hey, how’s the game?” she asked, putting her arms around Arthur’s neck and he kissed her hand. Eww, love. I thought. I just never really considered having a boyfriend, or a girlfriend for that matter. I had a family, wasn’t that enough love?

“Please no PDA in the living room.” I tried to do a deep voice. They laughed.

“Okie dokie, grandma,” Xandra said, sitting down next to Arthur as he wrapped his arm around her. I glared playfully and crossed my arms.

“Yeah, Riley, you’re such a party-pooper,” Arthur joked. I rolled my eyes. I tend to do that a lot.

We kept watching the game for a little, until BREAKING NEWS popped up onto the screen.

“COME ON! SPAIN WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A GOAL!” Arthur screamed at the tv as a news anchor came into view.

“There has been an outbreak of a deadly disease,” the news anchor said as a scene of a man laying in a hospital bed popped up. The man was coughing uncontrolably, and there was a nurse next to him, laying a damp cloth on his head. The man kept coughing up blood until he finally closed his eyes and went limp. The nurse sat there for a little, probably paying her respects, then got up and started to pull the blood stained sheets over him. He was clearly dead, but before the nurse could cover his head, the man's eye's opened, but they didn't look human. They were a sickly greenish yellow colour that made me want to hurl. As the man sat up he bit into the nurses arm. Her face contorned in pain. He kept going as he ripped her stomach and started to eat her guts. Her screams echoed into our living room and it sent shivers down my spine. Arthur and Xandra looked at each other uneasily. I glanced around the room, realizing that my parents and my little brother had gone out grocery shopping.

“Where’re mom and dad and Bowen?” Xandra asked me fantically as the scene on the television came to a stop and the president came on.

“They left to go to the grocery store…” I trailed off as the president walked up to a podium and started his speech.

“Citizens of the United States, there has been an outbreak of some sort of virus. The Government is trying everything they can to keep you safe. Just stay inside your homes and hope for the best.” He smiled the fakest smile I had ever seen and the screen went dark.

“They don’t have any idea what they’re doing.” I stated, still staring at the screen. Xandra and Arthur looked at me, and I looked at them. “There is no hope.'

Sorry for the sucky intro, hope you liked it. :)
