Dad turned on the kettle. The piercing sound rung through my ears waking me up. I slipped on my warm wool ugg boots and wandered into the lounge room. "You excited for the trip?" Dad perked. I didn't reply "all packed?" I was silent again, "well if you're not talking you can at least make your self some toast."
Mum walked in with her pale blue robe on, she undid the plait from her golden blonde hair. I have no idea how mum fell for a nerd like dad, I'm not saying he's ugly or anything just mums an ex-model - as of yesterday when she quit so we could move - and dad's well... an agricultural scientist.
Mum snuggled up to me on the couch. I have always thought of mum as a sister; she looks young and acts young, in a mature way of coarse. "Did you remember to grab everything from the bathroom Courtney?" asked mum. I looked down and nodded. "Oh come on Courtney it will be fun starting fresh. It's your birthday in a few weeks, so consider it as an early birthday present.
"Not what I had in mind unless a phone is included in that package?" I grinned cheekily. Mum nudged me softly "The only phone your getting is mine when I get myself a new one". We giggled and friendly tacked each other.
"I'm locking up in five minutes Courtney! Quick!" Dad yelled. I quickly scoffed my last piece of toast and ran down the stairs with my final.bag. When I opened our old door I did a weird little salute and said "good bye luxury house". Toot, toot! I ran out to the car and shoved my self amongst all the bags, clicked my seat belt in and we drove off, never to see this place again.
