Wonho turned wide-eyed to ChangKyun, who had a small smile on his lips. The hatter burst into great joy and shook the hands he still held in his.
"Great! I promise you won't regret this!"
ChangKyun struggled to keep smiling, but inside he was terrified. He didn't know what he was agreeing to, maybe it was too much for him; and yet the little hope that he could return home if he joined the rebellion suppressed any logic that shouted at him that he shouldn't.
MinHyuk started walking along the dining room excitedly, gabbling about a master plan they were preparing, and also mentioning the city of Nongjang, but he was talking so fast that ChangKyun didn't understand half a sentence.
"MinHyuk!" Wonho interrupted him impatiently, now drumming his fingers on the tablecloth. "This brat doesn't know how to fight, he's just going to be a burden," he reasoned, pointing at him with his index finger. ChangKyun frowned and pushed it away: he hated that Wonho was always bringing out how useless he was.
"Then teach him," Minhyuk answered simply, his silhouette illuminated by the huge fireplace.
"What?"
"Oh my dear, don't give me that. You know how to fight, you can teach this poor little kid to defend himself," he argued, standing behind ChangKyun, grabbing the back of his chair.
"Then why don't you teach him? I refuse to keep being his babysitter," Wonho said, crossing his arms and turning his face away. ChangKyun gave him a bad look at the clear annoyance in his words.
MinHyuk looked thoughtful and crouched down to be at ChangKyun's eye level. He caressed his cheek with his thin fingers and captured the human's full attention, approaching him dangerously and making him nervous. Wonho uncrossed his arms slowly, looking at them sideways and his shoulders tensing.
"My teaching methods would be a little..." he whispered, running a finger over ChangKyun's lower lip, who was completely frozen, "unconventional," he finished with a lascivious smile. The black haired boy swallowed hard, unable to separate himself from the sinister caress.
"Okay, fine! I'll do it," Wonho agreed visibly annoyed. MinHyuk smiled satisfied and gave a playful wink to the human, who finally could breathe again when he moved away from him.
"I knew you'd agree, after all, who can resist this cutie?" The hatter said, giving ChangKyun one last stroke on his chin. The hybrid watched him for a few seconds and looked away with a frown: he looked like a moody kid who was being forced to do something he didn't want to do. ChangKyun let out a small snort and squinted: he was going to prove him that he wasn't useless.
Suddenly, some bells tinkled at the entrance, catching the attention of all the dinner guests; Wonho looked alarmed at the owner of the house, thinking that they might have some unwanted visit, but MinHyuk explained to calm him down.
"It must be a letter from our allies. SungWoo, could you...?" He didn't have to finish the sentence and the hare that was sitting on the other side of the table immediately stopped licking a plate, running towards the door jumping. "Our friends in Nongjang are always very discreet, they usually send messages using small birds," he clarified to the confused ChangKyun, indicating with his index finger and thumb the size of the birds they used.
A few seconds later, the hare brought back a letter and offered it to MinHyuk.
"Thank you, my dear," he said with a smile, but behind his expression was a faint tinge of concern that the other two didn't miss. He walked in front of the fireplace, inspecting the envelope. "Let's see..."
His brown eyes studied the letter and, when he saw the heart-shaped lacquer seal that closed the paper flaps, he knew immediately who the sender was. His smile didn't fade and he opened the envelope with hidden nervousness, taking the paper from inside and reading it to himself.
