marinette walked to school, sometimes coughing a bit. for the last few days, she had been coughing up several sorts of flowers. somehow she had managed to keep it a secret. lavender colored roses, purple and white lilacs, and even sometimes lilies of the valley. she found out that she had hanahaki disease. probably for adrien. the only cure for it was for adrien to return the love to marinette, or to get a surgery that would remove the disease and also the feelings she had for adrien. she was afraid-terrified of what would happen if she got the surgery.
she walked to school, nervous of what would happen. she sees adrien there everyday. she was scared if she all of a sudden had a coughing fit.
but little did she know, that adrien had the same disease that she did. he had it for ladybug. he was going to try to get her to fall for him. it was a long shot, but it would have to be worth it. he was anxious for the school day to end so that he could go see his lady.
when she arrived, she saw him and walked to him slowly, pressing down the urge to cough. "h-hi... adrien..." she softly said, waving shyly. luckily, alya was nowhere to be seen yet.
he smiled and waved at her. "hey, marinette." he started to cough slightly. he turned away as lilacs fell neatly into his hand.
"h-how're you do-doing?" she asked as her throat began to burn, but she could handle it. "your weekend? I mean, was it good?" well, everything would be better than coughing up stupid flowers.
he looked up and nodded, his head in his hands. "oh, yeah... it was alright. you?"
"f-fine." she then looked down, holding her mouth, feeling the flowers come up like they were detecting she was lying.
"are you alright?" adrien was really tired. he had barely gotten any sleep. he was up thinking about ladybug and coughing flowers.
she nodded. "just need to-" calm, marinette. "go to the toilet." she choked out and ran away, to said place to vomit out the flowers.
adrien was confused. was marinette sick? he hoped she was alright. nino came in and sat next to him and alya went and sat in her seat.
marinette arrived soon after, not looking at adrien, hoping that would make a difference.
"hey, girl. you okay?" alya had heard from adrien that she might be sick.
"yes, i'm fine. everything's okay. i've just had this throat itch the last few days." flowers, then.
"aw. i'm sorry. those are the worst."
"it's okay, alya." marinette reassured.
then miss bustier started her lesson and marinette looked at her in full concentration.
adrien kept needing to cough. he'd push the petals into his backpack as sneakily as he could.
marinette looked at it, but didn't seem to notice, until she had to cough again. so she dropped her pen and pushed the lilacs and roses into her bag.
adrien started to doze off in class. nino had to elbow him to keep him awake.
marinette looked at him in worry. wow, this was not good. and her throat as well. jeez.
suddenly adrien sneezed. flowers flew everywhere. his face turned beet red as he collected the petals that landed on his desk.
"adrien?" she looked at the petals, rushing to him and helping him collect the flower petals, throwing them away. while she did, she quickly coughed up her last petals and threw them away along with his.
"thanks..." he muttered. he crossed his arms on his desk and buried his face into them.
"it's okay." she muttered back and sat down. so he loved someone else... otherwise they both wouldn't cough flowers.
"hey, adrien! who's the lucky girl?" kim called.
adrien turned to him tiredly. "it's not like it matters, but... ladybug." he turned back in his seat.
marinette shifted in her seat. "ladybug..." she mumbled and the petals burned. she grabbed her bag, but instead of petals, it was a complete rose. with thorns. covered in saliva. and blood.
adrien heard mari coughing and turned to ask if she was okay. her face was white and she had a shocked expression on her face. "m... mari? are you okay?"
she looked at him, unable to speak, and only nodded slowly. flowers were bad. worse than petals. she looked down and gave a weak smile, hoping he hadn't seen the flower.
he studied her for a minute before turning back around. he might go to the bakery and check up on her after school. he'd bring treats, but that's silly because she lives in them.
she blushed brightly and concentrated on class. luckily, ms. bustier acted like nothing happened and they continued with class.
the bell soon rang, signaling that it was the end of class and time for lunch. adrien waited outside of the door for marinette.
she looked down as she walked out of class, wanting to go to the toilet to get out more flowers.
he saw her walk out and jogged to catch up with her. "hey, are you feeling okay?"
no. she was not okay. "i'm f-fine." she softly said, not looking at him as the flowers made their way up. "i'm sorry for the- for the- disease."
he continued to walk with her. "eh. it's okay. it's not your fault. i don't know if ladybug will ever like me though, so i guess i have to live with it." he shrugs as he coughed up a couple of rose petals.
she looked down. "i- are you joking? l-ladybug?" she thought he was joking when kim asked him. "she- may like you too?" ladybug honestly was torn between adrien and chat noir.
he shook his head. "i doubt it... well, thanks for the help. i'll get going. see you." he waved and turned to leave.
she then rushed to the bathroom to vomit more flowers. the complete flowers again covered in blood.
