Point--Utterson foreshadows Lanyon's death when he sees him after Lanyon's shock. Utterson says:

Evidence--     "his death warrant written legibly upon his face"

Explanation--This sad quote corroborates to the point I have made above . also it shows that the shock to Lanyon of Hyde was so deep that he says himself: "I shall never recover"

Technique and Zoom--The technique used here is dark imagery Lanyon himself describes the fight between him and Jekyll is "incurable". Lanyon also calls Hyde "death" and when touched by Hyde, he feels "an icy pang along my blood". If all of these are linked, clearly there is a pattern. As "death" is "incurable" Lanyon feels he "shall never recover" because when Hyde touched him, it was actually "death" that touched him. Hence why him feeling "an icy pang along" his "blood". This shows that Lanyon's situation is very "deep".

Effect-- Here, the reader again feels empathy for both Jekyll and Lanyon as these two and Utterson were once "inseparable friends" but now, because of Hyde, all relationships are being cut and people are dying.

Okay guys so this is it for today. I do hope you find this stuff useful and would very much appreciate it if you could leave a comment to let me know. Bye=)
