Prologue
The good magic was slowly deteriorating she could feel the darkness closing in. Princess Melissa grabbed the key from her desk top and ran. Using the passage known only to her from her rooms to the grounds she had only minuets left to execute her plan. Reaching the majestic walled in garden her father had built for her when he learned of her gifts she gathered all the good magic she felt left in the world and forced it into the walls. Placing the key in the lock time stood still as the evil presence manifested behind her.
"Melissa you dare run from me" the darkness roared.
"I run from no one" the young princess held her ground.
"Give me what I came for"
"Never! Burofin you will never have my magic. Once the door is locked only the pure of heart and soul will be able to unlock it." The figure within the darkness roared and lunged for her but, to late she turned the key sealing the magic inside. No one knowing whether it would ever be unlocked again. Blinding light covered the land when it was gone so was the princess the darkness and the key.
Chapter one: The move
The first rays of light fell on a beautiful island with what looked like a run down village. Lilly a short young slender girl with long brown hair tied in two braids pinned to her head. Her green eyes took in all she could from the bow of the ship her light brown skin shown that she had spent much to much time top side. Standing next to her was her older sister Abigail. Her sister was a complete opposite favoring their mothers Irish heritage with long curly red hair tied in a tight bun atop her head. She possessed a dainty gentle face and fair skin barely touched by the sun. Body was straight at her full hight showing just how tall she was the only thing that linked the sisters was the eyes. Lilly's eyes were a slightly darker shade of green but green they were.
Lilly was practically vibrating with adventure that their new home would bring. Abigail placed her elegant hand on her sisters shoulder to still her. Lilly rolled her eyes her sister always the lady. Their grandmother had sent them here so Lilly's mother could bring this part of their kingdom up to par. The ship they were on was loaded down with finery and servants. Her mother would get the place up and running and then would choose which daughter would remain to rule this part of her families lands.
Lilly had no doubt it would be Abigail. Being only a year from sixteen she was the most ready and almost of age Lilly being only fourteen and still to defiant. This bothered the young princess none. She just wanted to be free to have her adventures.
The ship jolted her from her thoughts as it moored. Men rushed about securing things and unloading other things. Guards surged forward making a path for her parents to exit the ship. Lilly fell in step behind them next to her sister. trumpets blared loudly announcing their arrival. People peaked from shop windows and doors or from their homes but no one came out. Looking around her father Lilly noticed a royal carriage not her families colors. which struck her to be very very strange. The next thing was the old man and the young boy who stood beside it. They could be twins except for the ages where the boys hair was dark brown the mans was beginning to grey. The boys eyes were seeping swirling blues greens and yellows the mans had begun to pale. The boy had a tanned toned body were the mans was beginning to wrinkle.
The man stepped forward bowing to her parents then speaking quietly with them. Next thing she knew they were being whisked into the carriage. Lilly bolted to the curtains to watch the country go bye that's when it dawned on her there was something very wrong here and she was going to find out what it was.
Chapter two: The castle
The carriage halted in front of a very run down castle. the structure was solid but it was cover in creeping vines and over grown grass and shrubs. Looking over she saw her mother cringe and her sister wrinkle her elegant little nose. Lilly just smiled she was going to like this place a lot.
The doors were swung wide by servants and her mother instantly jumped into action giving orders. this place would be tip top before supper. Lilly looked up as her father placed his large hand on her shoulder.
"Go pick your room little moon beam hurry before Abigail gets to it."
That was her cue and she took off up the stairs. she vaguely remembered her mother saying there was three hundred rooms. The first floor yielded nothing as did floors two trough five. On the sixth floor she struck gold so to speak.
The rooms double doors called to her as she touched the beautifully carved trees. She gently pushed and the doors creaked open revealing a large four poster canopy bed with the same carvings on the head board. The walls were covered in lovely drapery. she drew her fingers down the skillfully done tapestries that picked animals and fairies and beautiful flowers. the furniture was done in the same elegant carvings as the bed and doors. Lilly felt an odd sort of warmth here this is her room. She felt it in her heart as she explored the sitting room and closets that joined the room. Beside the sitting room doors that were the same as the bedroom doors a key hung from a hook in the wall. Lilly tried it on both sets of doors it worked. So she locked her rooms up and went in search of her ladies maids.
On her way down she passed her sister also looking for the best rooms.
"Have you found anything Lilly?"
"Yes I already have it locked it's on the sixth floor."
"So at the very top then?"
"Yes and it is so wonderful Abigail I will show it to you when it's ready."
"As you wish dearest sister I must continue my search farewell." with a wave of her sisters hand she was dismissed.
Lilly found the people she was looking for in the large library and led them to her rooms. In record time things were finished every tapestry and curtain cleaned. surfaces sparkled and her own trinkets and clothes were brought in and filled the remaining space.
