I was running. I didn't know where but I knew I had to get away. Away from these people who kidnapped me when I was only a baby. They tortured me, held me hostage and forced me to become a killer. They marked me with a brand of a crow on my chest. My arms scared from me scratching at them.  I was pale at only sixteen years of age. My black hair cut short and my brown eyes darting everywhere. They were chasing me with dogs I could hear. A man wearing all black caught me. His hand going around to my mouth his other effortlessly holding me to him.

"Stop. I am trying to help you." His voice was deep and calmed me some, but the adrenaline that was pumping into my blood didn't want me to relax. I fought him but he still held me. "Vladimir.  Stop!" Then everything went black.

My eyes fluttered open but the squeezed shut due to a bright light right above me. I rolled to my side and groaned. My head pounded and my throat was sore. I reopened my eyes to see the man sitting in a chair watching me.

"Hello Vladimir." He said in the same voice as earlier.

"W..where am I...Who are you and how do you know my name.." I asked very hoarse like.

"My name is Dimitri.  I am...like a guardian angel to you. But not. I am what is called a Shadow. The only of my kind. And mot because my kind is extinct..but because there is only one of my kind at a time. Now...the reason I know your name is because you are the next Shadow." He spoke to me as if I were deaf. I guess ao I knew what he was saying. "Typically it transitions from male to female...because of the type of transition. But I guess not this time.." He frowned slightly.
