Sitting by the river side she continued to scribble on the wet sand with a twig. She just wanted to be alone. She had always liked it that way.She sat there for hours, with a lot of regrets and a restless busy mind.
“What are you doing here?” the voice startled her and she looked back. He was wearing a suit.
“What are ‘you’ doing here? Shouldn’t you be in… church?”
“I guess.” He sat on the log next to her and didn’t say anything for few minutes. He just stared at her weird doodles.
“I got stood up…again. On my wedding.”
She looked at him, but soon diverted her face back to the ground. “Again?! Ugh.”“I thought I understood her. And so I tried my best. So that this wouldn't happen again.”
“Well.. You are just too nice.”
“What do you mean?”
“Just what I said. You are just too nice. For doing all this for someone who doesn’t deserve it.”
“Maybe…yeah.”
She had always had trouble being with people. She always used to believe being alone is better for her.
She liked that. The loneliness.“Why are you here? I thought I invited you to the wedding.” He said.
“I don’t think it’s gonna matter much since the groom is here, huh?! So, what are you gonna do now?”
“Don’t know. But I just want to ask her.. Why? I wanna know what I did wrong.”
“Are you still giving her another chance? It doesn’t make any sense. This is her second time doing this. How can you forgive her? How can you even think of forgiving her? ”
“I never said that. I’m not gonna forgive her.”She looked at his eyes and knew he was telling the truth. Or that he thought he was telling the truth.
“Good for you. She doesn’t deserve you anyway.”
He got up.
“Hey. Where are you going?”“I’m thinking of taking her to her favourite place.”
“What? Even now? You realise you are a fool, right? I don’t understand why you are still with her. You will have a better future without her. She only thinks about herself. So selfish. Why don’t you just break up with her? Find someone new.”
He looked at her and shook his head, “I’m not sure that that’s what she really wants.”
“Will it be okay if I tag along for some time?”
“Okay.”
She followed him as he walked up the hill. Right at that time, it didn’t matter how much she liked being alone, because she loved him more.
When they reached the top of the hill, on the fresh grass there were four grave stones lying peacefully. She looked at him.“I will forgive you if promise to say your vows in front of them,” He said.
“Why…Why would you still do it?”
“Because I love you. And I would be happier if you could be happy on your wedding day.”
She took a deep breath, coz she had once promised him, years back, not to cry in front of them. She exhaled and said, “Okay. I will.”
She was happy again.
As she said it, she remembered how her life had come full circle again. This was where she had first met him. This was where they had fallen.
