"How do you find this so easy?" Paige fumed, frowning over yet another equation. Mia shrugged and continued on to the next question.

"My friend Jake taught me when I dropped out of school"

"Why did you drop out of school?"

"Alpha Fabian decided I didn't need to go to school and that I should focus on my chores" Mia explained.

"That's messed up" Paige shook her head, she couldn't believe how Mia's pack had treated her just for being an omega. Not only was it incredibly unfair, it was also ridiculously old fashioned. Most packs didn't discriminate against their omegas any more, they were treated equally and trained extensively so that they could fit in with any of the pack roles they wanted, even hunters.

"It was normal for me, besides I owed him my life"

"Why?"

"I got abandoned by my parents when I was born. Alpha Fabian told me they were rogues"

"Well that sounds shit" Paige quipped, Mia nodded in agreement.

"Here I'll help you" Mia said before grabbing a piece of scrap paper so she could explain the method to the maths problems they were working on.

After the lesson was over the two girls began making their way out. As maths was a double period they could go straight into break time. "So your locker is right next to mine, which is good because it means I can keep an eye on you"

"You don't have to keep an eye on me, I won't cause trouble I promise"

"I'm not keeping an eye on you because I think you're going to cause trouble. I'm keeping an eye on you because you're an easy target. A lot of my pack members are here too, if they catch your scent they'll do exactly what I did before except they won't stop to hear you out. While I'm next to you I'm masking your scent with mine so they won't even know you're here yet. The only person who could pick out an omega's scent next to mine is your mate or an alpha wolf. The alpha probably isn't even in today, he usually doesn't bother with school"

"Why not?"

"He has more important stuff I guess, he's been obsessed with searching the woods recently. Said he had a dream about his mate or something"

"Do you know him well?"

"I'm his delta" Paige announced proudly, realisation dawned on Mia. Of course she was a delta, no wonder she was masking Mia's scent. Deltas are the third most powerful type of wolf under Alphas and Betas.

"I didn't know women could be deltas"

"Your pack sounds so old fashioned, most packs allow women to be deltas, betas and even alphas these days"

"I didn't mean to offend you..."

"I'm not offended, I'm pissed off at how your alpha is running his own pack back into the stone age"

"Alpha Fabian isn't that bad..."

"I'm guessing he's the one that gave you that nice purple bruise on your face" Paige deduced, Mia subconsciously brought her hand to her cheek bone and rubbed the dark purple bruise that had formed there. She slowly nodded. "A good alpha doesn't abuse his pack Mia, it doesn't matter what type of wolf they are. It's his job to protect them, not take advantage. Your friend Jake was right to send you away, abusive alphas kill omegas" Paige rested her hand on Mia's shoulder gently, she felt sorry for Mia, she was so clueless to how a pack should really be.

They headed towards their lockers to pack away their books, Mia was lost in thought. She hadn't expected Paige to have a similar attitude to Jake, he had always said that they were too old fashioned too. Mia hadn't believed other wolves lived differently to them, she thought it was just a fantasy that Jake had for when he took over the pack. After meeting Paige and hearing about her pack she realised how wrong she had been.
