Well, it wasn't exactly unexpected.
The quadruplets were expected 100%.
The boy/girl/boy/girl pattern was not.
They had their names picked out already; Nemo, Lucas, Shep, and Scyllus. But seeing as Mothernature had changed the gender of two, they could pick something as close to the original as possible, if they wanted.
"What about instead of Lucas, it's Luna?" Their mother had suggested that day. Their dad thought for a moment, before nodding with a small smile. "Sounds doable," he said, cooing to the little Luna in his arms.
Now the last baby. The youngest, who was originally supposed to be named Scyllus, was swaddled in her mothers arms, barely making a sound even as the other three were whining and crying. It was unusual for a baby to be this...silent.
Now, anyone who grew up with their mother would know that she wasn't too keen on using unoriginal names, so names like Sierra and Sylvia were out of the draw. After thinking long and hard, she thought she had it. "Silence," she purred to the baby, who seemed to respond with a little grunt.
"Silence?" Her husband questioned. "What kind of name is that?" He looked to the little girl with his brow furrowed as if she was something he'd stepped in.
"What type of name is Shepsky? Or Nemo?" The mother challenged back, holding the baby tighter in her arms. "Her name is Silence and that's final." She finished.
"Alright," he mumbled. "It's your daughter."
