I would never have imagined that I'd
be standing in front of this house
the "creepy" house on the corner of the street
the kind of house that parents would make up tales
so we wouldn't cross paths with it
I never really saw it in that light, for my dad told me that
its what matters on the inside
knocking on the old wood door, I stepped back a few inches
though I shouldn't have been surprised,
I couldn't help my widening eyes when
a tall woman with a pixie haircut and eyes green as
emerald opened the door
she looked exactly like him
I mean obviously, he had to get his traits from somewhere
but the similarities were uncanny
not wanting to look like a fish out of water,
I quickly explained myself
"hi my name is mabel, I'm one of um axel's classmates
I came to drop off his homework"
expecting for the women to take the homework and
say a quick thanks was the way I imagined it to go
so when she smiled and ushered me inside
I was once again
a fish out of water
