Fear.
She couldn't escape it, so she used it to drive her onward.
The relentless rain and wind battered at her body and whipped straight through her thin coat and jeans. She hadn't been prepared for this kind of weather.
Her feet ached from her hours of walking and in wet shoes. She cursed herself again for abandoning her car. In hindsight it was so foolish, but she was paranoid of staying in one place too long.
She stumbled and went down to one knee. She cried out, placing a protective hand on her protruding abdomen. A twinge of pain frightening her more than actually hurting.
Please Lord! Don't let me have my baby in the woods! Do you even listen anymore?
She got back to her feet. Pulling her thin jacket closer around her. Where was she even? How could there even be a safe haven so far out here. She hadn't passed a town in hours in her car and she had been stumbling for what felt like hours more.
Just give me a place to have this baby safely. I'll never doubt you again.
Not taking the time to consider the implications of such a promise, she continued on her way.
Not far ahead a glow came into view and the trees began to thin. There standing not twenty feet from the last of trees, was a large blue barn.
