I was just a regular boy named Tommy when one day all that changed.

I woke up and went downstairs to see my mother for breakfast. When I was done i went outside to find my friends.

As soon as I went outside i saw my friend John. He was playing baseball with his dad in the park behind my house. His dad was pitching and John hit it so far that I couldn't even begin to guess where it went. That's why he was the star player on our baseball team at school. I was the pitcher for the team. I didn't have to watch anymore because we had a game tomorrow after school. i left him alone and went to find my friend Jack.

I finally saw him sitting on a bench outside of his house. he was playing a game on his phone (like usual). I tried to talk to him but he kept shooing me away with his hand. I finally just left to find my friend Bobby.

I finally found him walking outside his house. I noticed he looked particularly sad today. That made me very concerned because he's never sad. I walked up to him and said

"Hey Bobby, what's wrong?" i asked cautiously.

"I've heard some bad news." he said sadly. I wasn't sure if I should ask or leave it alone. In the end i decided to ask.

"What is it?" i asked suspiciously.

"You haven't heard?" he said I was confused i was about to start talking but he wasn't finished. "w-we , we are going into war against china." he said almost bursting into tears. i had no idea what to say but somehow, it just came to me.

"What!? why would we go to war with china?" i was paralyzed with fear.

"We think they have dangerous weapons in bunkers that could be used for evil." he replied. I wasn't sure if he was telling the truth but I was gonna find out.

"This better not be one of your sick jokes!" i screamed. he started to look angry and I knew I had made a mistake.

"What! how could you accuse me of something so horrible!" he screamed back at me. I decided to apologize.

"Ok I'm sorry, but how do know all of this?" i asked suspiciously.

"It is all over the news. in the newspaper on tv and on everyone's phone. I was surprised that you didn't know." he said mockingly.

"Wait, does that mean when i saw Jack on his phone earlier he didn't tell me?" i asked. i was starting to get angry again.

"I guess. but i haven't gotten to the worst part." he said getting sad again. That made me calm down again. i couldn't imagine that there would be a worse part.

"What is it?" i asked slowly.

"There is going to be a draft for the war." he said.

"Of course there will." i said mockingly.

"But this one is different." i was getting concerned. "everyone that's older then ten is in it." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. That meant my entire grade was in it. I decided to try not to think about it so eventually i just said

"Come on, its time to go to school."

On the way to school, we noticed more and more sorrow everywhere. It seemed that everyone knew. I saw nick and his hazel eyes turning blue from tears. He was my friend and luckily, he was eight years old. i started to cry along with everyone else.

When we finally reached the block of the school a crowd had gathered all around the front of the school. I wasn't sure what it was so i approached it slowly. I saw kids and adults walking around in circles. I saw that some people were sad and some of them were angry. I realized that it was a protest.

I saw friends and their parents joining in. I was wondering why it was at the school so i walked into the crowd. I had to push through put i kept being pushed back. It was obvious that someone was in the middle of everything. I had to find out what was there. I kept pushing and pushing until I got to the centre of the crowd. Then i realized why there was a protest there. A police officer was there trying to tell the kids about the war. I didn't have to watch this i decided to go back to talk to bobby.

When I went back to see him, he wasn't there. He was probably sitting down somewhere. He probably didn't want me bothering him anymore so i went back to see John.
