Alexis loved getting called pet names. She considered it one of the best ways to show someone that you cared for them without having to be physical. It worked great considering the fact that Dick loved using pet names for Alexis. The only problem was that Gabe hated when Dick called Alexis pet names; that was Gabe's territory. Gabe had been calling Alexis pet names ever since they reached the status of best friends, and he wasn't going to stop just because Dick was her boyfriend. When Dick called Alexis a pet name in front of Gabe, everything went insane. The group was in the cafeteria, everyone at the table already except for Dick.
"You know, I don't get why people are actually voting for Luther," Tom commented, reading some news article on his phone. Alexis just rolled her eyes, not wanting to get into it right now. She could go on for hours why Luther was a scum bag, and she had done exactly that before.
"It's fucking stupid that's what it is," Gabe told him without missing a beat.
"Hey, babe, I got us some fruit cups," Dick interrupted the conversation as he sat on the opposite side of Alexis. Gabe immediately stopped and glared at Dick before throwing his arm around Alexis's shoulders.
"Yeah, well, fuck his fruit cups, sugar cube," Gabe said. He grabbed his backpack from the ground and started rummaging through it. "I got us some candy. Honey bunches."
Alexis just sighed as Gabe proceeded to pull a bag of candy out of his backpack. "Can we please not do this today?" Alexis asked, putting her face in her hands. Truth be told, she was just tired as hell and didn't want to hear it.
"C'mon, baby girl," Dick started, putting one of the fruit cups in front of her. Alexis just groaned, bracing herself for what was going to happen. Every time Dick called Alexis a pet name in front of Gabe, Gabe responded with double the force.
"Alright, we're not bringing your kinks up at the lunch table, some of us are trying to eat here," Alex interrupted, just to get ignored.
"Sweetums," Gabe said, shaking the bag of candy in front of Alexis. "You know what's the better choice."
"Love," Dick tried, not even looking at Alexis.
"Darling," Gabe cut Dick off, glaring at him. Alexis didn't even have to look at them to know they were just glaring at each other by now, especially if the tense silence was anything to go by.
"Now y'all just look gay," Jaydon commented.
"I am gay," Gabe reminded him.
"Tuck in both your dicks and Dick, stop stealing Alexis from Gabe," Jaydon continued, ignoring Gabe. Alexis finally looked up, shooting Jaydon a grateful smile. At least someone else finally said something, it was just getting ridiculous at this point.
"But she's my girlfriend!" Dick immediately protested. Alexis shot him a comforting look as she placed her hand on his arm.
"There, there," Alexis said, feigning sympathy. At this point she honestly couldn't care less, but there was also the fact that she always sucked at comforting people.
"She may be your girlfriend, but she was my wife first," Gabe said, victorious.
"Why do you always get into it when Dick calls her a pet name?" Tom asked, looking between the guys with confusion. "He is her boyfriend, after all."
"You're lucky I let you call Adhara pet names," Gabe said. "Would you like me to stop with Dick and start with you?"
"Point taken, I'll keep my mouth shut," Tom surrendered, putting his hands up to show just that.
—
Something like that happened every time Dick called Alexis a pet name. Eventually it got to the point that Dick just wouldn't use pet names for Alexis unless they were alone. Alexis didn't particularly like that: she was an affectionate person and pet names were her favorite way to show that. Finally, Alexis got her boyfriend and her husband together so they could figure out what the fuck was going on there.
Alexis sat down across from Dick and Gabe, the two of them looking slightly uncomfortable on the couch. "Alright, this is an intervention," Alexis announced, crossing her legs like she guessed a therapist would. If anything it's what therapists did on tv, so how off could that be?
"I don't think that's how interventions start," Gabe said.
"Shut it, this needs to happen," Alexis shot back. "We need to figure out this whole pet name mess. I don't know what's going on, but it's making everyone uncomfortable."
"C'mon, babe-" Dick started, only to get cut off.
"Sorry, sugar," Gabe immediately started.
"That right there is what I'm talking about!" Alexis said, gesturing between the two guys. "Why does that happen every time?"
"Honestly, I started doing it as a joke and now I just can't stop," Gabe explained with a shrug. "And to be fair, Jaydon still finds it funny."
"Jaydon finds everything funny, he doesn't count as an excuse anymore," Dick laughed.
"See, look, we're getting somewhere now!" Alexis said triumphantly.
"Alright, alright, I'll give," Gabe said, putting his hands up in surrender before looking to Dick. "I won't give you as much trouble when you call Alexis pet names. No promise that I'll stop completely, but I'll give you a little slack here."
"Thanks, man. That's all I'm asking for," Dick said, grateful. Gabe nodded then turned to Alexis.
"You happy now?" Gabe asked, pouting slightly. Alexis took away all the fun Gabe could have. Well, he was sure that he could find something else, but the pet name thing was his main source of entertainment these days.
"As a matter of fact, I am," Alexis said with a smug smile. Gabe rolled his eyes but smiled anyways. As long as his best friend was happy, he was happy. But Dick would have to watch himself; Gabe had heard about him disrespecting his wife, and he was planning his revenge.
