The countryside of Japan was much different than the city. As I looked out the window of the blue and white bus all i saw was green trees and shadow shrines that seem to stare back at you as you entered a small town. In the mid-day summer it seemed as if no one lived in this town anymore. As the man drove to a stop I saw two young boy sitting at the bus stop.
"Ma'am this is the last stop I have for today in a city. Next I'm going up to the mountain." The bus driver said to me looked through the mirror above him.
"Oh no. this is my stop, sir." I said smiling at him. Getting up and taking my bags ran in to the smaller one of the young boys. "Oh, I'm really sorry!" I said looking at his blond hair.
"No, no. it's my fault" He said, coming up from his bow scratching the back of his head. " I should have been looking where I was going and let you off first, Miss. Are you okay?" He soon asked helping me pick up my fallen bags.
"Y-yes I'm fine. Thank you so much." I told him stepping out the way of the door so they both could get on.
As I walked to my homestay family's home I saw. Well I thought I saw two people fighting in the air. Standing on the sidewalk in disbelief I soon heard a girls voice.
"Hello. Are you Taira Zada?" she asked.
"Y-yeah.." i looked at her then back to the two people fighting in the air. "I'm, um... Looking for the Yukimaru home. Can you help me?" The girl had long dark hair and pretty brown eyes. She was wearing a skirt that stopped at her knees and a blouse.
"I'm Yukimaura Tokine." She smiled at me. So she's going to be my homestay sister. "you can come with me and I'll show you around the house." With that she turned and started to walk to a gated home. "Our home is this one" she pointed to the left. "On the right is Sumamuri Home... We don't really talk to them, but you can if you want to." she said with an annoyed look on her face. "The people that live there are Yoshimori-kun and Tokimori-kun the younger kids. Then Shuji Sumimaru-san their father, and last their Grandfather Shigimori Sumimaru-san. Yoshimori-kun and Toshimori-kun have an older brother, Masamori-san, but he dosen't visits often."
I looked through their opend gate and saw they had a dog house with the sign that said 'Madarao.' But nothing inside the home. "What about their mother?" I wonder out loud. Realizing what I said, I looked at Tokine-san to see her grimacing
"She never visits them. A few years after Yoshimori-kun was born she left to some jobs but then came back and had Toshimori-kun. But again she left. " Tokine-san glared at the ground but soon composed herself and continued to walk through the gates of her home. "On the the left is main house, next to it is our shed and that's Hakubi's dog house."
I expected to find a dog but this time there was a big stone in the dog house with a seal around it. "Did Hakubi die?" I asked.
"Yes, he died a long time ago." She said.
"Do you keep that seal around the rock keep his soul at home?" I joked walking in the main door with her.
Tokine looked at me with wide eyes. "Y-yes, we do. I-I mean that's what grandma told me but I don't know." She stammered. Taking our shoes off at the genkan Tokine yelled inside "Mom I'm home and I have Taira-san with me" Almost instantly an older woman with curly brown hair popped her head out from a door with a warm smile on her face.
Walking up to us, she wiped her hands on her orange apron. "Welcome back my daughter." she said to Tokine. "And welcome to our home Taira-san. It's a pleasure to me you! I'm Yukimaru Shizue. But you can call me Shizue if you would like."
"T-thank you for letting me in your home, Shizue-san." I bowed to her. "I'm sorry if I cause any inconvenience during my time here."
"No, no That wont be a problemat all. Come on I'll get granny, dinner is almost ready too. Tonight we're having sukiyaki." and with that Shizue-san rushed off to another part of the house.
