"There's one thing you should know before I start. My name's not Stanley. My real name is Anastasia."
Before she could continue, for indeed 'Stanley' was a she, there was a pause as the men expressed their disbelief. Among them, Raymond was the only one who didn't seem about to abandon their comrade.
Raising his voice to be heard he shouted "Let us hear her out before we do anything we might regret. She is one of the best soldiers I've ever seen and she probably has a good reason for risking her life like this."
"Thank you, Raymond. I was born on December 18, 1753, and I'm 17 currently. I don't really know where to start, so I guess I'll start with why I joined the army.
It started when I was 4. I don't remember this but I do remember being told when I was 13 and about to be introduced to 'society'.
Apparently ever since I was 4 I've been engaged to a somewhat wealthy, only son of a plantation owner.
The day after my mom told me, I was attending my first ball. I was only told because my future husband was going to be there and I was to be expected to dance with him. I argued with my mom, tried to get her to reconsider the engagement or let me not go to the ball."
She chuckled and shook her head before continuing on, "I was forced to go to the ball, though much to my parent's dismay, I spent the time in a corner reading a book.
This continued on for 3 more years, going to balls only when forced to and reading in the corner for most of the time.
My mom forced me to finally meet my intended. She arranged for him to come and have to with me."
"What was he like?" asked Raymond.
"To put it bluntly, he was an arsehole. He only talked about himself and if he had to talk about something else it was always some sort of comment about where a women's place is.
I eventally got up and went inside, argued with father about my behavior, then went upstairs.
That was the night I decided to join the army. I took some of father's clothes and cut my hair a bit shorter with the end of a bayonet. I tied it back with a ribbon, ut on a shirt with trousers, and rode towards the nearest enlistment place on one of my family's horses.
I've been in the army for about a year now and it's a hell of a lot better than being stuck in a marriage."
There was a bit of an awkward silence as the men processed what they just heard. A few of them were still in shock over 'hell' and 'arsehole'. (*gasp* such language)
"So that's why I'm in the war. Someone else please go now." Anastasia said quickly and a few men smiled faintly.
"I'll go next."
Yess, I left you on a cliffhanger! So, while I try to write the next chapter with someone else's story, I want you, the readers, to try and guess which story thou shalt be hearing next. Because this is for a contest that ends on the 10 of June, I would like to let you know that I have many stories I want to do, but a limited time. Therefore, This book will be marked as completed around the 10th, and as soon as results for the contest are out, it will go make to incomplete and will be continued. Please let me know what you thought of this so far, this is the first time I've tried to do a non-fanfic story thing and I want to know what you think.
Demigod out!
