An End Draws Near

The fighters left in the ring mainly consisted of the members of Universe 7. Most of the other participating universes had already been erased. After eliminating Toppo, Vegeta found himself stuck between a rock and a hard place. He was standing there, low on energy; at the same time Jiren was still in the tournament, looking as energetic as possible. Upon seeing this opening, Jiren took his chance to take down Vegeta. He shot a barrage of ki blasts into Vegeta's stomach and blasted him away. Vegeta, being as resilient as ever, hung onto the edge of the arena and managed to barely pull himself back up. As he stood up Jiren began to fire more ki blasts at him, this time point blank. Number 17 threw a barrier up around himself and jumped in front of Vegeta to try to take the hit. This may have seemed like a good idea on paper, but in practice it failed utterly. All that Number 17 accomplished with this tactic was getting himself blasted out of the arena as well. Now, only four fighters remained in the ring. Frieza was sitting in the background trying to figure out a way he could possibly help Goku to defeat Jiren, if he even could.

"Only four minutes left in the tournament. So, all we have to do is stall Jiren till time runs out and we'll win by default. I better just stay here for now, there's no need for me to challenge Jiren and end up like Vegeta or the android." said Frieza to himself as he stayed back and watched everything from afar.

"You ready to settle the score, see just whose stronger?" asked Goku, as a way to directly challenge Jiren.

"Goku. I've had some fun fighting you, and I wish we could've met under different circumstances. But as of know, play time's over." said Jiren, calm as ever, as he rushed Goku.

As these two began to clash, something rather unexpected happened. They noticed another fist make contact with their own. As the two gazed over, confused, they saw another fighter had jumped into the center of the ring with them.

There was a man apart of a race somewhat akin to the human form. The mysterious man was about as lean as the assassin Hit himself, and just about as tall. The man was bald with various eyes spaced evenly apart in a ring around his head. The man wore stilted sandals akin to that of which a samurai wore. The man even finished off the look with a samurai robe that only covered the lower half of his body, leaving the top half completely bare. The otherworldly creature finished his look with tan skin that allowed him to look somewhat human.

"What universe is he from? Excuse me, but umm.. Who the hell are you?" asked Goku, puzzled as he though only he and Jiren remained in the tournament.

"How rude of me, not introducing myself. [Smiles] I'm Zenpan of Universe 9, it's nice to meet you.”

“Stay back or else!” threatened Jiren, angered by Zenpan’s intrusion in his fight.

“Can you wait just a sec, please? I really wanna fight Jiren” said Goku, as a kind way of telling Zenpan to butt out of this battle.

“I've watched the action from afar for long enough” said Zenpan, sounding impatient and slightly angered by Goku and Jiren.

“[Thinking to himself] There's too much at stake for me to hold back against them. I have a family to think about [short pause] friends too. I have to win, too many people are counting on it.” thought Goku as he realized how high the stakes were now.

Goku’s thoughts were interrupted by a right hook to the face from Jiren. Stumbling backwards, Goku caught himself and attempted to stand back up all the way. Suddenly he sees Jiren rushing at him, too fast for him to counter. Right before Jiren has a chance to land another blow on Goku, Zenpan swept Jiren’s legs out from under him. Being as resilient as always, Jiren did not fall to the ground but instead caught himself with his hands before propelling himself approximately twenty-five feet away from his original position.
