I hear screaming from the street and immediately I have the urge to go and see what it is. But you know what people say: 'curiosity kills the cat'.
I do it anyways.
I run to the street and see a man with a gun and another man on the floor with blood slowly spreading around his body from a hole in his side. 'time to go' I think in my head as I slowly move away from the site in front of me and head down the block.
now I'm running down the block with a couple of the other bystanders, wondering what happened. I hear another gunshot and immediately after hear a few screams, which just makes me run faster. only after I'm safely covered and hidden from sight do I stop panting and feel a little better.
Of course, I'm still scared, but I feel a little better.
A couple minutes later I heard sirens and see police cars pulling up all around the neighborhood. they search and find mostly all of the people in hiding and tell them to go home and not to worry. the rest of the people that they didn't find had to hear the announcement from a megaphone. hopefully everyone hears and gets home.
I rush home, open the door, and find my mom in front of the tv trembling. she sees me but does nothing, so I ask her why she's watching the tv so intently...
and she says...
"Nothing, Vivi. Go to your room and play with your tablet." She doesn't look up at me. "But Mom— outside there was—" she stands up and looks at me. "Now, Violet." She sees the scrapes on my legs and gasps. "Oh, goodness, dear, change your clothes! You'll get blood all over the house. Change. Now." I cross my arms and stomp up the stairs.
I clean the blood off my arms and legs and change into my sleepclothes. It's my first day at school tomorrow and everyone will think I'm a gang girl. I can't let them think that way. This is horrible. A new province area, a new house, new school, new neighborhood, and I've already screwed it up.
I'm going to be the New Girl. That never ends well.
