We got home late last night. the traffic was crazy from all the riots and protests going on.
I didn't think it would be this hectic though. I'm surprised.
As mom drives me to school I see tons of protesters with signs about the gangs and the fights with the president.
when we make it to the station I get out mutter a goodbye to mom and head over to Martha who's sitting back against a column near everyone from my "new school".
I go over and get out my tablet. I look over all the tweets from the president before looking over at the kids from yesterday. The ones who didn't get on the train.
I stand up slowly still looking at them.
'breathe' I think to myself over and over again as I walk over.
'it's gonna be alright' I tell myself 'nothing will happen'.
I take a deep breath in as I get closer. Some of the kids over there notice me walking over and tell others. soon all of them were staring at me. I look over my shoulder and see the kids from my school were staring at me too. I look straight ahead quickly not wanting to face the sea of judgment form my fellow classmates.
As I get close enough I see a nice looking girl sitting next to another girl and a boy. I walk up to her and say as politely as I can.
"Hey, I saw that you guys didn't get on the train yesterday. did you miss it by accident?"
She looks at me oddly and so do the others next to her and says
"No we didn't miss it we just don't take that train"
"oh," I say "so what school do you go to then?"
"we all go to the public school in this neighborhood" she says "thats why all the kids from your school look at us the way they do"
"I still don't understand" I say" I'm sorry"
"so you go to public school, take a different bus and that the only reason why EVERYONE at my school gives you the stink eye?" I say
She laughs
"yup that's pretty much it" she say's
"my name's kaylee by the way" she says " and the two next to me are Brielle and tom"
The girl on her right says "hi" as well as the boy on the left.
"hey" I say back
Right as I say that the bell goes off meaning our train has arrived.
I look back at my classmates and see them getting their stuff ready. I turn back around and say bye to Kaylee, Brielle, and Tom before running back, getting my stuff ready and boarding the train.
I look back at Kaylee for as long as I can until the train goes in a tunnel and then their gone.
