Jason's pov
I sat up in my bed, in my tiny room at my grandparents house.
My cousin Dawson's always been the favourite. My mum was a traitor or something I don't know. I wouldn't know as they've been dead since 2001. I have a few photos of my mum and dad, stashed in a shoebox of prized possessions that I keep under my bed.
My room had an old large crate that said 'Sagittarius' in green lettering that I was allowed to use for a desk, some pens pencils and paints, a few action figures, an old gameboy advance that I found in the field at school earlier this year with a Pokémon game in it, a deck of playing cards, my dads bag of marbles and a set of jacks.
I stumbled down the stairs running a hand through my curly black hair, placing the glasses in front of my eyes that were scarily green.
"Hey Jason!"
"Oh, hey Dawson! I'm just heading out to grab the post. Grandma said some chores would 'do me good'"
"Hey, let me come. I guess we're just to young to understand why she hates you... how could anyone hate their grandson!"
"I don't know. Krista and Audrey are gonna meet us at the treehouse later. It is my birthday after all"
"Oh yeah! Happy birthday!"
"Yep it's august 16th! I wish my mum could see me..."
"Yeah... it would be nice to see our parents again"
We stepped out of the cramped Toronto townhouse and walked to the letterbox. I stuck the key in box number 9 and grabbed the letters. I noticed two odd looking ones and pulled them out. One addressed to me, one to Dawson. Envelopes with swirling constellations , stars that were actually moving! I rubbed my eyes. Still swirling around. We exchanged confused glances before running back to unit #9 and thrusting the letters into grandma and grandads hands.
Their eyes widened and grandpa said
"Congratulations boys. You've been accepted into Star Academy of Magic and Acedemics"
I took my letter and gave it a read
Dearest Jason Green,Will you be an Aries, personality like fire, or is the scorpios determination what you desire,
The Leo's Sarcasm and wit will serve you great, in Aquarius the friendship makes hate dissipate,
The gemeni are smart and wise, always a good plan they'll devise,
Finally the Sagittarius, their protectiveness and ambition is what so many make their mission. No matter where you'll be, here at Star Academy you'll be happy as can be

-Professor QuicksilverI ran to the bathroom and combed out my mess of hair as quick as I could, shoving my contact lenses in my eyes, which grandad said i 'Shouldn't wear at age ten' but when have they ever cared about my health? i rushed down the stairs, grabing my gameboy on the way stuffing it into my cargo short pocket.
i ran down the street, to the park at the end of the road that was surrounded by a small wood. running through the woods, i climbed the ladder of our club hangout, spotting Audrey and Krista already sitting there, holding papers.
"Hey Jason"
"Hey Auds, what've you got there?"
"I got this letter... for a Wizard School!"
"So did I! Star Academy right?"
"i never knew that even excisted!"
"I got one too"
"Nice! so did Dawson! we're all gonna be together at this cool YEAR LONG school! no relatives, its just so... Perfect."
"What else could a ten year old want in the world!"
"not much... i brought you something for your birthday Jason."
"thanks Auds"
she handed me two worn out game cartridges.
"Where did you get these!"
"my brother was getting rid of them, so i thought you may want them..."
I tackled her in a big bear hug, squeezing her tight
"thank you so much... your the best"
"heh... no problem Jason..."
i let her go and we all spent the rest of the afternoon talking about which district we thought we'd be in and what the ticket for the "dragon Tram" was all about.
Finally somewhere where i wont be second best.
that night i sat in my bed, playing one of the new games that Audrey gave me, not being able to wait for August 30th.
Dragon Tram. 25 hours. having to sleep on a freaking MAGICAL TRAIN! that and Grandma and Grandad would have to give me money so i can get stuff! its kinda overwhelming, finding out all of this just now. just yesterday, i was the kid that the more athletic boys beat up, the kid who read too much and drew a lot of pictures, the kid whos parents were dead, the kid whos grandparents disliked him and mistreated him. the name Jason Green was getting some new significance.
i couldnt have asked for a better birthday.
