The helicopter pilot steered them towards an abandoned factory building on the outskirts of Manhattan. As they began to set down, each of the kids disembarked, jumping out of the helicopter from far higher than a safe height.
They're showing off, the pilot thought to himself. He chuckled, landing the helicopter on the roof of the factory building. He clambered out of the passenger seat, revealing himself to be no older or younger than the rest of the group. He was tall and lean, with green eyes and medium-length dark hair. He surveyed the group below him and waved. The three kids looked up at him, and he dropped off the edge of the roof. He landed on the ground about twenty feet below him and walked towards the group like nothing had happened.
"Hey, everyone. Welcome to Manhattan! Glad you could make it out," the boy said. "Let's get straight to it. My name is Caeleb. Last names are unimportant. What is important is the fact that I'm just like you. See, our situation is one right out of classical literature. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Anyone here read it?" At this, Erebus raised his hand. "Ah, so Dominick has read it. Surprising, I would've thought Hope had. Anywho, all of you should refresh yourselves on it, because right now, you're living it. All of you, you're Hydes right now. I'm Jekyll. My Hyde's name is Seth Abigor. He's the one that called you all here. Well, we both did. While all of you live in conflict with your other half, Seth and I have made peace."
The group stared at him, but after a moment, one of them stepped forward. Aeron bared his teeth. "If you're a Jekyll, we have absolutely no reason to listen to you. We're stronger than you. We should've never come here."
Caeleb laughed, sending chills down their spines. "I'm different from the rest of you. You're all Betas. I'm an Alpha. It means that I was literally born to lead this group. We were born together, but I'm the only one that can send out those telepathic messages. I think you'll also find Seth and I to be more than capable of handling ourselves." At this, he groaned and doubled over...but only for a moment. Standing back up, he revealed himself to be several inches taller, and a good bit more muscular. His eyes, which were previously bright green, were now white, with blood quickly drying around the edges. Seth cracked his knuckles. "Do you still want to test me?"
The larger boy never even hesitated, and immediately charged Seth. Aeron aimed low to attempt to tackle him, but Seth wasn't there by the time he got there. He felt a hand close around the back of his skull. At that moment, he was terrified.
"I was born to be better than you," Aeron heard inside his head, just before it was quickly thrusted into the ground, cracking the cement around it. He repeated the action once, twice more. He stood up, and dusted his hands off. The larger boy lay there, bleeding, and unable to stand.
"We heal quickly, I promise. He will be fine in about ten minutes. All I did was bruise his skull and face, possibly a hairline eye socket fracture. But, let this be a lesson to all of you. I will be a good leader, but if you defy me, you will face the consequences. Do I hear any objections?"
The other two stood there, quiet.
"Great! Erebus, pick up Aeron. I suspect Malachi will be coming back any moment now, and I need him restrained. Let's get some food. I'm sure you're all starving."
