It was a late Saturday afternoon, and the city was starting to come alive. I rarely left Crimson Rose Academies campus due to my hatred of crowds however, Mai caught a cold so I paid her a visit today. Given that I also needed some supplies I decided to stay a bit longer, despite the receding pastels of the sunset, and the music pouring from doorways.
I had gone through a few sidestreets to avoid the Summer Rave festival crowds. As I was wandering someone on a hoverboard rammed into me from nowhere. "Watch it!" I yelled. My voice echoed across the buildings, and I got glances from the few pedestrians frequenting the area. Annoyed I got to my feet, and gathered my bags before noticing the storefront before me.
Starlight Spectrum Shipping Company. For all your transporting needs. The sign had a strange iridescent flim, which gave it an odd, but also interestingly eye catching apperance. The storefront seemed excessively decorated for a shipping company storefront. Aside from the iridescent sign, the windows had a similar film that faimtly tinted the interior, the countertop was a blueish-green granite that sat above an intricate gradient painting that emphisised the colors that were elaborately worked in, the shelves that heald boxes, and other packing supplies were edged with flowly etched glass, and the boards were digital monitors with fancy static graphics and were literally framed as though they were pictures. I began to walk away when I noticed the "help wanted" sign that was stuck to the bottom of my foot. Confused I pulled it off. "Looking for full or part-time applicants. Apply inside." Hmmm I thought. I had been looking into getting another job somewhere.
I was already a 3rd year, and pretty soon I'd need to go to a Specialty or vocational school. I wanted to train to become a Sociologist, and that would cost money. Money that I didn't have. I already worked as an apprentice accountant, however I didn't have any sponsors to help fund me, given that I was an orphan. I got sorted into a Tier 1 school at the age of 7 due to my intellect, and took campus jobs cleaning, and cooking to help pay off my primary citizenship debt faster. However it was still a big thing to pay and, I wanted that taken care of sooner than later. Additionally Specialty schools costs much more than the required education parameters, and unlike vocational schools where you could transfer before your quota was complete and you'd immediately enter the workforce, you couldn't work until you were cleared and that for some careers took years.
The delivery seemed deserted, despite the fact that the door had been unlocked, and the lights on. "Hello?" I asked. The air was chilly, and had faint notes of something sweet that seemed to linger. I noticed a bell by the counter, and pressed the ringer, sending a magestic, earshattering chime through the otherwise seeminly dead air. After the sound had finished resonating, someone appeared through the doorway. The guy was average height, a medium build, a medium dark complexion, short, straight black hair, darker eyes, a black collared shirt, and slacks. "H-hi?" I half stuttered. "Evening, ma'm. Welcome to Starlight Spectrum. What can I do for you this evening?" He asked. A thin, western accent, slightly diluted by another foreign accent flanked his sppech. "Um...your help wanted sign was on the ground. I came to give it back." I placed the slightly tattered piece of paper on the icy countertop...that seemed to glow where my hand touched it. "Vern that son of a-" he muttered under his breath. "Thank you ma'am" he said before tucking the tattered sign under the counter. "Is there anything else I can do for you today?" He asked. "Actually, there is. I was wondering if-if, I could apply for that part-time job you're advertising. Is there a work history file, or other paperwork I need to apply?" I asked, somehow not stuttering, despite my now intense shivering. "That won't be neccicay ma'am. If you have a bit we can have the interview now." He said, as he seemed to observe me more carefully. "Sure. Now's good." I replied. "Please, follow me then" he said as he lead me into a back room. "Sorry the break room is a bit of a mess" he said. "Would you like some coffeee?" he asked. "No thank you I'm fine." I sat down in the nearest chair. He took a chair opposite me. "Let's begin then. Have you ever had experience working in the shipping industry?"
"No, sir"
"Do you have any transport mechs?"
"I have a hoverboard."
"Are you liscenced?"
"Yes"
"Do you intend on working part-time or full-time?"
"I work as an apprentice accountant on work days, but I can pull non-workdays until the summer is over. Then I'd likely pull shifts afterschool if that's alright."
"That's fine. Could you this out for me?" He said as he handed me a stack of documents, and a pen.
"Yes."
After I finished the paperwork, I got the manager-Tin's links before heading for the blocks.
