You could hear them from miles away. It was a low sound, almost like a cello's lowest note being plucked. Slowly, rhythmically, an agonizing thrum that struck terror into the hearts of anyone within earshot. They were known as The Faceless and they knew everything. As they came closer the sound was already engraved into your brain. It echoed everywhere and there was no stopping it. There wasn't a pillow big enough block out the thrum. You can't sleep through it. Just pull the covers over your head and wait for it to end. They'll leave eventually. They always do.
The Faceless came every six months. Every visit is fearfully anticipated. They rampage through the city at night taking randomly selected civilians. Friends, family, neighbors, gone without a trace. Nobody knows where they go or if they're even alive. But one thing's for certain, they never return. I will admit they terrify me, but as much as they terrify me, they also intrigue me.
Every six months I steal a peak out my window, just barely enough to see the so called 'Faceless'. They were like a black mist with glowing yellow eyes. An ominous aura surrounded them but the look in their eyes were kind and gentle. At first glance, they seemed harmless, at least that's what I thought until our gazes met. Amber clashing with yellow. The air was sucked out of my lungs and I struggled to breathe. My mind started to fog and my vision begun to cloud when I saw two yellow orbs suddenly centimeters from me. It's eyes offered kindness but my mind was screaming at me to run. I couldn't make my legs move no matter how hard I tried. My voice refused to make a sound. As I felt my pulse begin to slow, my vision faded into black.(A/N, so this is my first time actually publishing something if I'm be honest. I apologize for the short chapter, hopefully they won't always be this short. If you are reading this, which clearly you are if you're here.. Ohmi I'm so awkward, I wish to thank you. I take constructive criticism but no hate. Got it? Good. If you like it, don't be shy to comment. I also take requests if you want me write them. I'm awful at A/N's so I'll be off then. Happy readings~)
