Once in a land before our time, there was a band called Savatage. Their singer was Jon Oliva, he was well-known for his brillant singing voice. Of course his brother Criss, a guitar virtuoso, was part of the band and together they worked on their career.
What can an unknown band do to reach a bigger audience? Serve as support for bigger ones, correct.
This is what Savatage did. They were touring together with various widely known bands, including the one that starts with M and ends with egadeth.
Jon Oliva and that band's frontman Dave M. had grown quite close to each other during their time together on the road. After all, that's the closest guys can get without having sex with each other.
But that Dave M. had serious issues which he tried to fight in a rather destructive way. And soon, Jon wanted to try them too.
Long story short, it didn't end well for the poor guy. Not only did his new friendship suffer but also had he to spend a longer time locked up in a place to learn why those coping mechanisms weren't good.
Criss surely was disappointed.
